Fajitas?

OK, so here it is... we're from Texas and having only a Semi-formal wedding/reception with way too many people to serve steak and grilled chicken... and, I don't want to worry about the side dishes, and RSVP cards, and I HATE bbq at weddings..... so my question is..... it tacky to serve both beef and chicken fajitas, and allowing people to either create their own in a buffet line or just having a "family style meal" with the food ready to be passed at the table? My Dad personally thinks I'll ruin my dress with fajitas, ( i think mostly because he always gets fajitas on himself) but I love the idea.... just thought i'd ask for some feedback :)

I like this fajita idea everyone loves fajitas! Are you making the food yourself?

I think you should have it set up as a buffet/station. With the meat choices, toppings, and rice and beans for the sides.

I think that fajitas sound super-fun!  The only thing that I'd be concerned about is the buffet line getting held up while everyone adds a little of this and a little of that...but I guess that's generally my issue with buffets, so maybe it's no more of a concern than it would be with any other food type.  As for your dress...it's not like you're going to be wearing it again anyway.....

My only thing with fajitas is that they make my clothes smell AWFUL.   It always sucks to go to a Mexican place for lunch and then out come the fajitas for the next table over.  I'd be a little irked if I left a wedding with my nice clothes smelling like Taco Bell.

I had the same thought as NOLAbridealmost.  I love fajitas, but hate the smell.  If I am all dressed up for a wedding, I don't want to smell like a mexican restaurant.

Haha, i'm from SE Texas, our family loves fajitas and i'm pretty sure that's what we're doing too with the buffet style. Glad someone else thinks it's a good idea, I was concerned too!

I don't think your guests will smell like fajitas if your venue is big enough to ventilate :] I also don't think fajitas are messy at all, maybe about how I fold mine up? but i've never had a problem, and if you do who cares - you're there to have a good time, your pictures will be taken before you start eating.

That sounds like a great idea!  Also, if you run a two sided buffet, the line goes quicker...that is what they do where I work, and with over 250 people the luncheon line is never too long...
I wouldn't worry about the mess.  People can choose to eat their food with a fork if they don't wan't to wrap it up in the tortilla.  As long as they are sitting at a table it should be fine!
We are opting to do something more casual and have a pig roast so we don't have to cut people off of our guest list or be stressed about the catering bill.  As long as no one leaves hungry and you have a great time, that is all that matters!

We did tacos and fajitas as part of our buffet. We had about 140 in attendance and it went pretty quickly as we had people going down both sides of the buffet.

I don't think it was too messy for anyone and everyone is still talking about how great the food was!

We are doing a taco bar and enchalads.
my mother wasn't too excited about it, she thinks we need fried chicken (Puke). but I love the idea and it's easy and cheap. I'm having a backyard wedding and my aunt is cooking everything for us. So it saves a lot of money.

Thanks for the feed back! We are making all the food ourselves. As for the smell, because the fajitas will be cooked outside and not served in a skillet as they are in restaurants I don't think that there will Be a problem with smell! Thanks again.
