What flavor?

I am going over some details with our cake maker, and she wants to know what flavor we have in mind... I have no clue?

FI doesn't eat or really like cake, so the only amount he will be eating is during the famous "bride and groom" feeding. I like chocolate cake, but honestly I don't care what kind it is since I'm sure I won't have the time to indulge.

Should we just be plain jane and go with vanilla?

Is it one tier or multiple? What's the cost to get two different flavors if it is more than one tier?

Can you go and do a cake tasting with your baker? This might help you better decide? We are having 2 different flavors although both rather simple, because I am simple kind of person. We are having a dark chocolate cake with cream cheese filling and then a vanilla cake with a chocolate filling.

I would say do a tasting. You might not care about the cake, but some of your guests might. It might be what they are looking forward to the most (food wise). So I would at least try a couple different flavors. Bring someone who you know loves cake. That way you can get a second opinion on the flavors.

Even if you can't eat it during the reception, you're proabably going to have leftover cake to take home.  We had an entire tier that we were eating for the next week.

I agree with PPs. The one thing I'll add: If you're not particular, skip anything with peanuts or strawberries. They are common allergens.

I would ask them what their most popular flavor is and consider going with that.
