Dessert Table?

I am planning on doing a dessert table for my wedding (Oct 2013, so still in beginning planning stages).

There will be 200 guests. I know I want 2-3 pretty small cakes of different flavors, and I will fill the table with Mexican wedding cookies, cupcakes, macaroons, etc. My question is: How much cake should be provided? The purpose of the dessert table is so that not everyone eats cake, but has other options for dessert. Is anyone else planning on doing this? How are you measuring the amount of cake vs. other dessert per person?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Dessert Table?

  • I would still count on one piece per person.  Many people would probably have cake and cookies.
  • I would think one piece of cake or one cupcake per person.  Those who like cake will probably take one of those plus a cookie.
  • ITA with the above. If provided choices, I'd have a piece of cake and probably one of each cookie (yes, I'm the dreaded "buffet sampler")
  • I am planning for a dessert table too!! Featuring assorted pastries, petit fours, tarts, Italian wedding cookies, macaroons, truffles, candies, the wedding cake and a grooms cake. This makes me so excited! Ha!

Anyway, I am absolutely planning for there to be enough cake for everyone PLUS a few pastries and cookies too. I'm having a small wedding (about 75 to 85) and am planning for the desserts to double as the favors. Little pastry boxes with ribbon & a seal will be provided for guests to take with them.

  • Thanks for all of the feedback! That is a great idea to have them double as the favors!
  • Definitely a fan of the dessert table! We are also getting hitched in October of 2013 and are doing a table with a small cutting cake, cake pops, apothecary jars with different candies, and drum roll please.....a S'mores bar! It's perfect for the fall! Not everyone likes cake, and when served in a plated dinner, not all will eat it and you'll end up going home with tons of cake you'll never eat! Have fun with it and keep a variety. Your guests will thank you and you'll get to experience the fun too!
