Filling to pair with lemon cake?

I just had my cake consultation today, which went really well. Now I'm thinking about flavors, and I think a lemon layer would be really great, as it's an outdoor garden reception. (My other layer is vanilla with strawberry filling.)

My only problem is that I have NO idea what to fill it with. The bakery can do most fruits, any kind of berry, as well as lemon-curd (too much lemon?), chocolate, nutella, and regular frosting. I am totally at a loss. HELP!!

Re: Filling to pair with lemon cake?

  • I vote raspberries too!
  • We're doing lemon and raspberry, it depends on which you think the bakery makes the best.

Lemon was my favorite by a landslide but my cake lady does all types of fruits and while raspberries are not my favorite, they're agreeable with crowds and hers tastes great!
  • I'm personally a bit of a baker myself and I experiment with flavors.... I too am a huge fan of lemon favored cake! I've done this before and its freakin delicious..... but see if they can do some sort of light whipped cream cheese/vanilla filling with COCONUT (either just the extraxt for flavor or coconut itself). I've actually made a frosting that was basically vanilla, and I added lemon extract, and coconut......................... my fiance and his sister were just eating it out of the bowl lol
