We are going to a tasting at the facility we are heavily considering for our wedding. What should I expect while there? I'm unsure what exactly the tasting entails, other than I'm sure, tasting food.

What's the etiquette which tipping and taking notes? Will I get a bill for the tasting or is it typically assumed as part of the package? Who is usually invited, as parents are contributing financially is it appropriate to have them with us? I'm very new to this, I said from birth I was eloping and here I am now

It definitely varies by venue. Ours was the exact opposite of Duds.  At ours, they would have 1 tasting for all couples who had booked with them every month.  We could go with up to 2 other people to as many as we wanted (within reason; the contract said 2 tastings tops, but the coordinator said that was just in there because a psycho lady went to every tasting for 2 years a while back). We went to three. 

At each one they had a random sampling of the hors d'oeuvres, entrees, salads, displays (cheese, fruit, pate's, etc) and desserts. 

After going to 2-3 tastings we had a pretty good idea of everything on the menu.  And we were able to put ours together with our notes from each one.

I believe ours is a privatetasting just for us and the guests we bring, a couple of the parents, his mom, my father and stepmother and my mother. I'm very self conscience about calling and asking about how to pay for the tasting. I spoke with the owner who said just be prepared to give the deposit should the food be what's wanted, which I'm sure it will. How do I tip?

The tasting is not something you would leave a tip - whether the venue charges for the tasting or not.
