Grooms cake - pricing, number of people, etc.

Hi everyone,

I am interested in getting a groomscake, but I have no idea where to start.

I am curious how many people it's supposed to feed, if I'm supposed to keep that number in mind when talking with places about the wedding cake itself, etc.

I'm also not sure how much one might/should/could spend on one.

I'm not sold on doing one at all, but if it's relatively painless and not wallet busting, I'd be game. Laughing

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

The typical size of the grooms cake is supposed to be half the number of servings of the wedding cake.  It's also typically chocolate, but of course can be different depending on what your fiance likes!  :)

Check out your local board; they'll have a better idea about regional pricing.

Our grooms cake came about as sort of a surprise... we designed a four tier wedding cake with hexagon tiers with the baker. She then added up how many servings the cake would have, and came up 14 slices short of our guest list. She suggested ordering an additional sheet cake to make up for the extra servings, instead, she is going to do another 14" hexagon decorated in chocolate for my FI! I'm excited.

    Our groom's cake wasn't "traditional"

It was a Wrigley field sign and served at the rehearsal dinner (with ice cream) as dessert.

It was $90 for 65 servings and delivery.

I am planning on doing the groom's cake at the rehersal dinner. I want to do the Power T for the University of Tennessee since he is a huge fan.

Our grooms cake is a half sheet of a football field with a Philly Eagles helmet on top.  It was $135, which is a great price for LA.  It's a carrot cake, feeds about 50 I want to say.
He gave us a good deal because we also ordered the wedding cake from him.

If you plan to serve the grooms cake at the wedding, it is usually a good idea to balance the total servings.  For instance, if you have 150 people attending, you would want your cakes to be able to serve 75 each, in theory, or 100 servings and 50 servings.  Some people will not eat cake at all, and some will have more than one serving.

I have read on threads about having "a ton" of leftover cake of one kind or another, so alot of brides and grooms serve the grooms cake at the rehearsal dinner.

Best thing to do is talk to your bakery/caterer about this and they can help you find the best solution.

    Good Luck!
    Anniversary
