DW Cake ideas

Hey ladies,

First of all let me tell you that I'm not much of a cake person. I like it, don't get me wrong, what woman doesn't like it just a little bit? Anyway I'm having  a small (under 20) family DW and I can't really do any bakery tastings due to the distance. I want to get a cake that is unqiue but overall just tastes fantastic! I am thinking about doing Wedding Pies because I love pie and most bakeries make better pie than cake. I've looked at a few cake places from their websites/called but I just don't want some boring white cake that tastes like cardboard. I love colour, so pie would fit but I just need some suggestions from you lovely ladies on 1) Do you think pie has a better chance of having higher qaulity? and  2) if I did do pies how should I display it/them( should I ask the baker to set them like a cake?)

Any other DW cake alternative would be great. Our wedding is casual but I still want it to have a special traditional theme.

If you are doing a DW, do you have a coordinator or someone at the venue who you can ask for a recommendation?

I have no real answers to your actual questions.  Sorry.  Embarassed

Can you post on the local board for where you're getting married to see if anyone has suggestions for a bakery?

You could have mini pies (like, bite-size) to go with the cake.  That way, you have a traditional wedding cake, but people can have a little pie to go along with their cake.

If you ended up doing all pie, I would display them on stands at different heights, and have a pie buffet.  Something like this (link).

Thanks guys. I will try the Local board and see if anyone has any good ideas. I like the different Heights too.

  • I think the pie is a great idea. I am getting quotes on mini pies with set up like the picture below!! Hope this helped a little!
