International Foods

I'm having a Travel Themed Wedding with an Old Hollywood twist. We aren't having a traditional sit down, but rather stations scattered around the venue with a lot of heavy hor'devours. I've tried to get a few items from several countries. 

So far we've got: Empanadas, Bruchetta, Spring Rolls, Parmesan Puffs, Stuffed Mushrooms, Duck Confit Baguettes, Indian Curry Station, meat skewers with peanut chili, jerk, and Mongolian sauce, Cheeses from around the world with baquettes, Exotic Fruit tray with yogurt sauce, Hummus and Spinach Artichoke Dip with Pita, and an Asian Pasta Station.

I'm planning on getting some international candies to round it out, like turkish delights, havla, and chili candies.  My problem is that I can't think of any foods or candies from Africa that sound appealing.  I also need some more ideas for international candies.

Any ideas?

Have you had Ethiopian food?  Also, Middle Eastern food would add some variety and works well as a station--falafel, pita, hummus, tahini, and salads.

We were just at a wedding that had a fried rice station.  You picked brown or fried rice, then you picked one of three meats and/or mushrooms or cabbage, and then you could add sauce and toppings like scallions.  It was served in mini take out containers.  I know you already mentioned an Asian pasta station, but just thought I'd throw out another idea.  

As for candy, if you have a Chinese or general Asian supermarket near you, I would just go and pick out some things.  You could also have the seed/licorice mixture that is at a lot of Indian restaurants--I'm sure you could find it online, or we have an Indian grocery that sells it in large containers.

I must be super spacey because I honestly forgot about the international grocery store in Charlotte.  That's a very solid idea.

Maybe get some South African wines- they are great! Also, I LOVE Kelewele, which are fried plantanes. You can do them sweet, spiced and salty. They are a common street food in West Africa, mainly Ghana, and SOOOO good after drinking and dancing.  Or you could do North Africa as well and could do portions of a Moroccan Tagine. Sounds like fun :)

Ladies, I'm stealing all of these ideas.  Well, I guess it depends on what the chef can do and all, but I'm going to try.  The hard part is getting things exotic that my very un-adventurous family will try.

Kelewele is pretty much the best thing ever. I love it with a bunch of red red poured on top of it, om nom nom.
