How much is TOO much for this cake?

Seriously- if you were a  die hard Red Sox fan how much would you pay to have this as a GC?  is it worth it??

I'm not sure if I would spend the money on that cake.  It's extremely cool and very detailed, but I just don't have the budget.  I would bet that cake is worth at least $1000, depending on how big it is and where you live.  I'm going a simpler route: square cake that looks like a football field with a football on top with his favorite school's logo.  Take the picture to a bakery and ask how much it would cost.  I bet they'd have tons of cheaper alternatives that he'll think are also awesome.  Good luck!

Like PP said, I bet that cake costs at least $1k.  That would not be worth it to me... but it might be to you.

If cost is an issue, would something like this still make him jump for joy?  http://www.cakepicturegallery.com/v/birthday-cakes/Boston+Red+Sox+cake.JPG.html

Coming from a HUGE Red Sox fan....I freaking love it!! Looks expensive. If you budgeted for it I say go for it, but if not and this is something spontaneous figure out how much you can afford to spend if you really want to do it and dont go over your brudget.

    I love it

    Go Sox!

My FI would prefer tickets to his baseball team than a cake like that. My groomscake is actually TWO: I had a 4 leaf clover cake pan ordered and my friend is making a chocolate and a vanilla cake. Both will have the four leaf clover on top (basically has to do with the story he told me on explaining how he knew he was in love with me) and then each one will feature a few small add ons of his favorite things: his mustang, xbox, rays baseball, and bucs

If it wouldn't take away from other wedding related items, and I could afford it, and I was an extreme fan......then and only then would I pay for it.  Other than that, no.  It is cool looking though.

The cake is $500. To be honest my FI doesn't even like cake.. it's just the fact that it's an amazing cake!  I budgeted for around $200 and I think the picture that you showed me (which is VERY awesome too!) would probably work better!!

    THANK YOU :)

I was gonna say....1000 is crazy and way off track for a GC.  500 is closer to normal. Ask your baker (especially if it is the same one as the wedding cake) if they can help you out.

It all depends on the design of the cake though.  I wouldn't have expected that cake to be any lower than $500, but $1,000 isn't completely unreasonable for a stadium cake with that much detail.  I've seen far less extravagent cakes sell for $800+.

I would think a die-hard RS fan would love a cake with their emblem on it just a much as something like that.

To me, that is too over-the-top, but I am of the KISS mentality.

My cousin got her husband a Fenway Park cake that wasn't nearly as nice as the one above, and I think she paid $800.  I was shocked.  It looked like something a kid did for a school project (complete with pipe cleaners holding the scoreboards, etc.!)
