Buffet question

The Scoop:
Wedding in Mexico on beach, just Groom and I.
Reception four days later after we return

Fiance found this great little Italian Resturant and asked that they make us a buffet menu to sort of go with the Carribean theme. Their idea was Pork and jerk chicken kabobs, black beans or red beans and rice, carribean rice w pineapples, sweet bread, fruit salad. (They also did mention that we could alter it however we wanted, but this is what they thought of based on our "theme" description)
I love the kabob idea, but not too thrilled with the sides.
I am thinking we could do wild rice or red potatoes instead of the beans, etc.

BUT I got to thinking, this is an Italian Resturant and lots of knotties say pasta is an excellent way to go, so what about lasagna, chicken parm, salads, bread table and fruit?

Which one would you prefer?
June reception at 6pm to 11 pm and full bar, I dont want skimpy foods.

Thanks!

I love the themed menu idea!  I think those items sound great.

I would want to try the food first though - I'd question getting all that caribbean style or mexican style food from an Italian restaurant.

If you do go with italian - I think that's fine too. I love italian food, and it tends to go over well with a lot of people.

I think either menu sounds fine.  If you're looking for other sides, how about mashed sweet potatoes with banana or fried plaintains?

I would be a little cautious of having a restuarant prepare food that isn't their specialty.  If you are set on the Italian restaurant, I would go with Italian food unless you try their Carribean food and it's really stellar.

Oh, they do tons of catering so I'm sure they can do just about anything. I might see if we can get in this weekend for some tasting. Owner used to be a wedding coordinator and is going above and beyond already for us, handling the bar, cake cutting, day of coordinating, so I think I really want to use her for the catering.

I am super picky, so the menu was like eh to me, sounds like you all would enjoy it though.

I'm kind of picky too, so I would choose the second menu with the regular Italian foods.  However, I would eat the stuff on the first menu, but I would enjoy the second menu more. :)

I would do the Italian menu bc there will be Italian decor in the rest., sounds better for vegetarians, and the first menu is not Mexican food, so it wouldn't make me think of your ceremony in Mexico.

Either menu is good BUT, because they're an Italian place, I'd do Italian. It will probably vibe better with the actual restaurant and since the chefs are more accustomed to those foods, I'd be less worried about the taste. :)

FYI- The reception is not going to be held at their resturant, but at a conference center we are renting.
