Hot or Not?

So, this is the second wedding for both of us.  I didn't have a wedding the first time and he had a large one.  This one is just family, simple and laid back.  We have been searching for cakes and have found some we like.  I am not impressed however with any of the bakers I have seen or the price more importantly.  After some thought and discussion with various people, we have decided to instead do New York style cheese cakes with a variety of toppings.  Our guests will be able to build their own and hopefully there will be something for every one.  I am not a huge cake fan and the whole "traditional" thing isn't important to me.  As long and the greatest man in the world is there waiting for me at the alter, my day will be complete.  So, my question to you guys is, is this cheesecake thing hot, or not?  Thanks guysLaughing

We're not having a traditional wedding cake either.  We are having a dessert buffet with several kinds of cake, fondue, blueberry crisp, and ice cream and sorbet.  The only thing about your plan is that I would suggest that you have non-cheesecake dessert options for guests that aren't cheesecake fans.  Maybe something else that guests could still put the toppings on, like chocolate cake?  Or you could have a display of cookies or something.

If you don't want a cake, then at least have an alternative to the cheesecake.  I'm one of those people who can't eat it.

I LOVE cheesecake, but many people have lactose issues.....  maybe some cupcakes as a second option?

I love cheesecake but like PPs have pointed out not everyone does so you should have some kind of alternative dessert.

I love the cheesecake idea, especially for the style wedding you're having. We're having a small wedding with family and close friends too, and I'm having three different flavors of pound cake (I don't like traditional cake with icing...too sweet for me). Our groom's cake will be cheesecake because he is a BIG fan. My sister had cheesecakes with different toppings at her bridal shower, and it was really pretty and enjoyable!

I do like cheesecake! And I'm honestly not convinced you need other options. If you have one vegan guest would you necessarily get a vegan cake or an alternative cake? Some people can't eat everything, and that's really okay. Now if half your list is lactose-intolerant, that's another story.

I like cheesecake, but only a small amount of it. For those that can't eat it, I would suggest having a 2nd dessert choice.

I love it-- I wouldn't worry about a second dessert-- It's way too tiring to try to please everyone!

Sounds great! I We're having a pastel de tres leches cake, a traditional mexican cake, so my fi's family will be surprised and maybe not pleasently because it's not what they are used to. We figure we like it and we can't please everyone so it's what we are going with.
