Candy Buffet - I really want to do one but without spending a ridiculous amount

So colors are green and white with touches of pink (only on the flowers).  I want to do a candy buffet, I am having about 70 people total.  I'm thinking I could do 10 types of candy 5 pounds per type.  

Does my pounds per type of candy sound like it would look plentiful (as long as it is in the right containers) or should I do more pounds and less types.

I really really want to do one and for some reason I'm thinking I can do it for about $100 (especially with Easter candy going on sale soon).

Any suggestions or tips?  I already have favors this is totally an almost last minute addition because I just think the kids and adults would LOVE it! 

I've done a lot of googling but knotties are always the best at helping with specific situations.

You'd definitely have more than enough. Some say 1/2 lb. per person, and others say 1/4 lb. per person. We did 1/4 lb. per person and it was perfect. It was a huge hit and loved by everyone. I know they're very popular on here, but most brides don't end up on these boards so they're usually new to wedding guests when they see them.

I purchased my containers at Michaels with 40% coupons and Christmas Tree shops. My mom ordered the candy and the scoops and tongs from scoops-scoops and Costco.

I definitely agree with getting the candy from Costco, Sam's or some other food wholesaler.

As far as containers go- I'd try looking on Craigslist or at a dollar store.

Oh also I just saw that Michael's sells scoops now (the metal ones) 2/$5 so of course with coupons it won't cost too much.

Thank you so much and now I feel comfortable doing the candy buffet without feeling like I will get way in over my head.

I did a dessert buffet for a friend's bridal shower as a gift.  The containers, backdrop, candy, cake (I made), decorated sugar cookies (I made), cupcakes (I made), rice crispy treats (I made) and bags for guests to take their goodies home and stickers to close the bags came to $450.

The candy included 10 lbs of jelly bellys, 5 lbs of malt balls, and 7 lbs of salt water candy.  The total was around $100 or $120, I can't remember now.

For 70 people you only need around 35 lbs. of candy.  Candy online generally runs around $5 lb.  Your cheapest bet is to buy locally and not worry about having bulk candy in your wedding colors.  I did 7 types I think.  You also need the containers, scoops, and takeout bags or boxes, and any decor (I just did candles and rose petals).  I got all my containers at TJ Maxx and DIY'd my takeout boxes.

It's going to be tough to keep it at $100.

id ask around for containers. you will be surprised at what others have in their home that they will let you borrow! when i mentioned to my grandma that we are doing a candy buffet she asked if we needed containers, and we said yes and the next day she came over with about 8 glass containers that we are borrowing, and will work perfect! we got ribbon (our colors are pink, green and ivory) to tie around just for some color.

We had about 75 people at our reception, so I had 2-3 pounds of about 10 different kinds of candy, and that was more than enough with plenty of extra for us.  The only thing we ran out of was Sour Patch Kids.  Remember, not everyone is going to take candy.

If you get it all from Costco, you should be able to do it for just over $100, plus the cost of vessels, boxes/bags, and scoops.  I rented the vessels and scoops from a coworker for $25 and the bags didn't cost me more than $15.  Check your local board to see if anyone has any candy buffet vessels/scoops they'd be willing to rent to you or sell you.

I'm not sure how much Michael's charges for vessels, but another good place to look is Home Goods.  They've got all kinds of that stuff for pretty cheap.
