Anyone who ordered a publix cake, questions

So I had not intended to do a wedding cake at all. Just a small cheesecake with topper and a full on dessert bar with mini cupcakes, cheesecakes, wedding tea cakes from Sweden, and candy. Then I fell in love with one I saw at the store last week.

I refuse to pay what they want for a 3tier with non edible gumpaste and fondant stuff. I was a candy maker years ago and can do chocolate decor to place on and what not.

Here is the thing. I LOVE their whipped frosting but know that it can melt fast. Besides butter cream is there anything smooth and not gritty? How did you go about choosing a flavor since I assume no tastings. I can buy a slice here and there and try but for instance if I go with red velvet..cream cheese frosting won't hold up right? It's an indoor reception in February. Just trying to figure out my options before deciding to go wtih them or to another baker to just do a 2 tier plain decorated cake that I can decorate myself.

I am getting my cake from Publix, they  do have cake tastings you just have to schedule an appointment, they also deliver the cake to your wedding for a small fee.  I found them to be really accommodating for a Grocery store. Hope this helps.

Thank you SO MUCH! The first lady was shoving info down my throat and not really letting me talk...I'm going to stop in again soon as they are the closest place. I am too scared to deliver it ourselves so that was a biggy to know! I will see when they have tastings. Thank you again!
