Catering

Hello everyone this is my first post.
My wedding is August 4, 2012 and I'm just getting started.  I have my venue, both ceremony and reception will be held at the same location.  I am on a limited buget and my family will be doing the cartering for about a 100 people, we are doing a buffet style event. Does anyone have any idea of how much this will cost? Also I'm looking for some DIY reception decoration ideas my theme is orange, yellow and light green.

Re: Catering

  • How much it will cost will depending on what type of food you plan on offering.  Hamburgers and hot dogs would obviously be much cheaper than seafood.  What is your menu?

BTW:  Love your wedding date, that's mine too!

  • I was thinking about having chicken prepared two different way and and baked slamon, along  with a salad bar and three sides.
I also want to have a hors· d'oeuvre  not too expensive.  My budget is between 1000-1500 for 100-120 people. Any suggestions?
  • It really depends on your menu and location. HCOL areas will cost more than LCOL areas for the exact same items.    This is an international board so it's hard for us to say.

I would start looking at warehouse places for costs of meats. Look for sales, etc.  That might give you a better idea.

  • Thank you. I live in Ohio. My menu not quite sure,  I was thinking bar-b-que/grill chicken, fried chicken, baked salmon, steam vegetable, salad bar, rice, potato salad, and mac and cheese. I'm not sure for the Hors  d'oeuvre.
  • meats you will need 1/2 per person of actual meat.  If it's on the bone it would be more like 3/4 of a pound.  Or 2 pieces pp.

    Potato/mac-n-cheese about 4 oz pp

Green salad 3 oz pp (less people eat green salads.)

I would call around for prices.

If you aren't a member, you might see if one of your friends is and price some of this food at Sam's Club or Costco, alot of it could be bought there.  Also, if you think about what veggies might be in season you could buy them at the farmer's market for less than the grocery store.

Do you have a way to maintain warm temperature for the warm foods during the reception?

  • Thanks guys. I do have a full kitchen at my reception location and I'm allowed full access. Also, I'm trying to find somewhere to rent or purchase dinnerware for cheap have not found anywhere yet. I reallly don't want to use disposables, the cheapest place that i have found so far is dollar tree direct which sells each dinner plate for 1.00. Any suggestions?
  • You should check out the webrestaurantstore.com we bought the white with silver plates that look real but they are plastic. We ordered them through this web site and got a total of 300 plates 150 salad and 150 dinner plates for around 90 with shipping. They look great and you don't get stuck with all the left over plates you won't need. If you were to go to a party store and purchase them the are 12 per package of  10-15 depending on the size. Hope this helps

  • Thanks a lot, I was on their website because that is where I'm ordering my chaffers because they cost the same as renting and i can resell after the wedding. However, I did not see their disposables, will check back thanks.
