Let's Do the Math...

I was on pink is the new blog reading about last night's premiere in CA for New Moon and read a thing about a 38 year old grandmother who was at the premiere.  A 38 year old grandmother?!?!?!?  How is that even possible???  That really says a lot about her and about her kid.http://www.pinkisthenewblog.com/2009/11/the-twilight-saga-new-moon-premieres-in-hollywood/#more-43325

There was a woman like this over on The Nest- she's 35 or 36 and her sons girlfriend, who is 15 or so, is pregnant.   The cycle just continues.

Julie, just say it.After thinking about it, it is possible...but that's awfully young to be a mom or a grandmother.  Don't you think?  At least she can boast that she's a hot, young grandma...

Okay, my comment was: It just goes to show that white trash does actually exist outside the south.

At 38, a woman could conceivably give birth to a child who is younger than their grandchild.

Hmm.. well if the grandmother and her child both had their children at 19 then this is possible, right? (assuming the baby was just born)I'd say there are probably a lot of grandmothers even younger than that out there nowadays.  That's just crazy.

My grandma was around that age when I was born...She was 16 when my grandpa and her got married, 17 when she had my dad, and my parents were fairly young when they had me...

I had a student once who was 12 yrs old and his mom was 25.  Yeah.  My last serious boyfriend before I met David was 10 years older than me, and had a daughter when he was 20, so when we were dating she was 16.   I was facebook stalking and saw that she is pregnant now, so if I'd stayed with him I'd be  30 yr old step grandma.  That hurts my brain!

I am not sure why that constitutes as white trash. My grandmother had my mom just when she had just turned 17 and my mom had me at 22 so that makes my grandmother 39 when I was born. Both were married, are still married and neither are white trash. I find it extremely tiring that some of you are quick to make judgement when you really don't know much at all.

I guess I constitute white trash as not being married and having a whole bunch of kids with no means of support.  To me being young and married and having kids is quite a bit different.

Thank you, TCUES.  Apparently I missed the memo where it was okay to call someone white trash.  Like a lot of other people have mentioned, my step-dad was 18 when he had his first child and he was unmarried.  *totally just got interrupted by a fire drill*  But that doesn't make him white trash or any other description/word that is meant to insult or bring people down.  Did he make a mistake?  Only he can decide that, but he ended up marrying the woman he had a child with and they had another kid before she was killed, and I have no doubt they would still be married had she not passed.

It sounds young but it happens when people have kids at a young age. But I dont like to judge people when I see that. My parents had my brothers at a young age and it happens. My cousins did the samething. But atleast they are responsible. But there are those who are not....

I definitely agree.  I know friends who've had children at 19-20 and they're doing well for themselves...I just don't know how they do it.  But I want to be clear- I wasn't saying the lady was white trash.  Just that it blew my mind that she could be a grandma at 38.  My mom was 37 when she had me...so it just kind of shocked me.

I have a student whose mom is younger than me. I'm in my late 20's. My step-aunt had a child at 16 and her daughter had one at 15 (almost 16), so my aunt became a grandma at 31. Her youngest son is younger than all his nieces and nephews. Crazy, huh? The cycle really does continue in that situation.

I had my son at 19... I have a half brother who is 3 months older. So my step mom became a "grandma" at 36. Now my MOM was 42 so not as bad haha!
