More Than a cake server??

I am having cakes for centerpieces for my October wedding.  I purchased cake servers so each table can have one. Is this all they will need to cut the 8 inch round cakes on the tables? Or do I need to put a knife also on the tables?

Re: More Than a cake server??

  • It depends on the cake server utensil. Some have a really sharp edge, some not. If one side is a really sharp edge, then you are ok.

It also depends on whether the knives from dinner will still be on the table. If the caterers have not cleared the knives from the table, there will be knives availabe for the guests to use (if they wipe it off).

  • The servers do not have a "sharp" edge on them....
  • I wouldn't put the knife on the table but I think you will need one. Your waiters can probably pass them out after dinner.
  • I like the idea of each table with it's own cake. But I don't think having your guests cut and serve themselves is such a great idea. Are you having a sit down dinner?

Would it be possible to have your servers come to each table to cut and serve the cakes to your guests? This way they can bring the knife and serving utensil with them (along with fresh cake plates), so as not to have them at the tables.
