only having a few kids at the wedding ...food question?

there might be 10 kids total at the wedding (they are family coming from far out town and part of the wedding....otherwise kids really aren't invited)

for you having a plated meal...how are you dealing w/ feeding the kiddos?  I've contacted our caterer with questions but just wanted to get an idea of how it works.  5 kids are big enough to have their own plates....5 are small enough that they always munch off mom/dads plate lol

I guess i can also have some pizza ordered for them if my caterer can't accomodate or is too $$$ (and its allowed, i already looked into it, from my venue AND my caterer)

I have a friend w/ SEVERE gluten allergies, my caterer doesn't do gluten free (she does gluten free foods, but the preparation portion can't be guaranteed....) and her allergy is super sensitive.  I feel bad that she has to bring her food to my wedding (she does it all the to various events bc she doesn't trust a lot of places)  is there anything i can do for her?!

thanks!

  • 1) You need to provide gluten free options for your friend.  I don't care if she's used to bringing her own stuff; a good host accommodates legitimate food allergies.....and franky, a good caterer should guarantee the preparation portion if it's a known issue for a guest.  I'd hire a new caterer or at least order a gluten free meal (w/ the preparation guaranteed to be GF) from an outside restaurant.

    2) The kids that are young enough to "eat off a parent's plate" still need to have their own meal budgeted and prepared for them.

    3) If there's only 10 kids, call up the parents and say "The adults are getting X.  The caterer can do a kid's meal of Y if necessary.  What does little Suzie want?"

For the kids question I can't really answer because I'm not planning a wedding.

For your friend with the gluten free issue... if you can order in outside food for the kid, can you order in outside food for her, too? If she doesn't trust other places, maybe you guys can work together to find a place she will trust.
I get it, though. It's frustrating. My cousin's kid has severe allergies and she doesn't trust any place that serves food at all. It's worth a shot, though.
