How should we do this?

I guess we're having a buffet. We're inviting about 170 people, but are expecting about 70...should we do several stations, or one long table? We have pretty much unlimited space...

I love stations because it breaks up the lines.  And rather than having 1 big "here's where we all line up and get the food" thing, just have the stations available for several hours so people can select and eat things at their leisure.  That's the best part of a station reception. While some people are boogying down, others can be enjoying seconds or thirds at the stations.

Thanks. I was thinking stations because we're doing a candy buffet and thought it would look weird unless we did stations...

you could even do a combination of stations and a buffet table.  that's actually my favorite.  :)

    How would that work?

You mean stations and a buffet?  We had a couple of stations (potato and quesadilla) and we also had a buffet table with 2 entrees, sides, rolls.  You could have 2 or 3 stations, even a couple of carving stations, and then do the sides on a buffet table.  Whatever!  I just like the variety.  I'm sure your caterer will have some great ideas for you.  :)

We had two identical buffets set up.  They were large round tables, so people could go around either to get their full meal and didn't need to go to both.  I like the idea of stations, too, but just thought I'd throw out another option!

I like when the stations are the main selections and then the sides are on a buffet style table. I do like the idea of having it set up for a few hours (if possible) that way people can start dancing if they want or have seconds if they want. Just to keep things moving a little better.
