7pm reception, what to serve?

1st, there is NO wedding before the reception/open house/get together (whatever you want to label it). We are having a private ceremony a few weeks before.

2nd, this is a 2nd wedding for both of us and only family & close friends will be there.  I expect around 75 at most.

3rd, it's very casual- more of an "open house" situation rather than a traditional reception.  I don't expect people to stay all evening but come in & out.

Thanks for all your help, ideas & opinions!

Is it going to be at your house?  If so, I'd do hot and cold appetizers but enough to fill people up.

Appetizers are fine but make sure you have enough. 7pm is still dinner time for most people so make sure you fill them up.

If you want people to come and go then appetizers are the best idea. Be sure to have lots of variety, warm and cold and then of course to have plenty. As mentioned it is during the dinner time and some people will be coming right over after work.

I assume you're making the food yourself? I also think you're going to want things that are a little more filling. I love doing different things stuffed into crescent rolls. You can do spinach and cheese or ham and cheese or ranch chicken and bacon! There are endless possibilities and they always go fast so be sure to make plenty :) PM me if you want any recipes. Happy planning!

I agree with filling appetizers. They will allow people to eat something and still move along quickly enough to make room for other guests.
