Ideas for food?

I'm vegan, along with a total of 3 other guests. Everyone else eats meat. My fiance & I are picky eaters. We both love pasta & pizza. We were thinking of doing possibly a pasta & salad bar with a bunch of different kinds of pizzas.

Pasta bar:
- whole wheat organic spaghetti
- organic fettuccine or bowtie pasta
- alfredo
- marinara
- olive oil sautee type sauce
- meatballs
- italian sausage
- peas
- sauteed vegetables
- mushrooms
- breadsticks
etc.

Salad bar:
- romaine, caesar, iceberg, spring mix
- broccoli, mushrooms, carrots, cauliflower, chickpeas, onions, tomatoes etc.
- assorted salad dressings
- croutons, cheeses, other toppings.

Pizza:
- pepperoni
- cheese
- hamburger
- vegan cheese
- broccoli
- vegan cheese & broccoli etc.

Any thoughts/ideas?

It will be in a rustic, historic barn with a very laid back/casual/party atmosphere

Re: Ideas for food?

  • I think that sounds delicious.  Since you're offering meat, I would suggest having chicken on the pasta station--that seems to be popular.  I would have the pizza cut into squares, if possible.  I think that will look more gourmet and guests could sample multiple kinds.

At first I thought your menu was very carb-heavy, but people should be able to have protein and veggies from the pasta station along with a salad if they don't want to have a plate of carbs.
  • I think the salad bar and pasta bar sound great.  I'm not a big fan or serving pizza to a big crowd.  It's hard to keep hot, and it takes up a lot of room.  Maybe you can substitute a tray of lasagna or something for the pizza.
  • I agree with everyone who says this sounds delish!  I also worry about the space that pizzas take up; how large is your wedding?  If you've got under 50 guests I'd say go for it, but otherwise that's a lot of surface area for pizza to feed a big group unless you start stacking boxes, etc.
  • Those are some really good ideas, especially the different sauces! The wedding will probably end up being 120 people or so, so maybe we can think outside of the box because pizza does take up a lot of room. We will have a lot of younger kids at our wedding too, so I think this is pretty kid friendly also
  • There are pizza places that pull a pizza oven trailer and can bake pizzas as fast as they can be served. We have one in our town and it's extremely popularplus the place just makes a great pizza. You might check around for a place with such a trailer. So much better than pizza that's been sitting in a box.
