Mashed Potatoes

So ladies,
I was thinking about doing a mashed potato bar as my action station...potatoes are cheap ya know.
What kinds of toppings would be good?
I'm thinking the standard baked potato toppings, but I want something else to liven it up...HELPPPP!

The only thing I can think of other than the typical baked potato toppings are different types of gravy?

I had a potato martini bar at my wedding and it was my favorite part of the meal.  We had 3 kinds of potatoes:  sweet, yukon gold, and traditional and here were our toppings:  It was sooo delish!
Herb Butter, Smoked Bacon, Chives, Sour Cream, Oven Roasted Tomatoes,Garlic Shrimp, Forest Mushrooms & Aged Cheddar Cheese

Peas!  I love mashed potatoes and peas.  Going off stephie's post, you could have a couple kinds of butter, too--maybe a jalapeno butter and a sweeter butter (maple?), and I like the herbed butter suggestion.

We had a potato station also, with whipped red potatoes and sweet potatoes.  In addition to what has already been mentioned, there was gravy, cilatro sour cream, chive cream cheese and cinnamon sugar and toasted pecans, both for the sweet potatoes.  So yummy!

If you are having sweet potatoes as an option I would have sweet toppings like honey butter, cinnamon and brown sugar.

Thank you guys so much! such a help! I talked to my caterer and in addition to bacon cheese blah blah blah there will be a crawfish monica sauce and a burgundy beef and mushroom gravy. 

I LOVE the idea of tomatoes and something jalapeno-ey...FI loves spicy food and the idea for martini glasses is so cute i may steal it!

We are having another dish with sweet potato...were doing jerk sweet potato fritters. (they are so yummy) 

oh and there will be butter...LOTS of butter...so much butter I may just have a heart attack right there

omg yummmmmm!!! And I def recommend the martini glass idea, I think it will make it so classy and a real talking point!  Since you seem to be on a budget (and so am i!) you can even get the martini glasses online from the dollar tree.  Check them out...they have a lot of nice options and they are just $1 each.  They even have ones with colored stems...perhaps you can find some to match your theme!

and dont worry....they are glass...not plastic!
