Who cuts the cake??

I am on an extremely tight budget. We are not having a caterer and are just ordering in bulk from a local market. I won't be able to afford a day of coordinator but I need some help. Since I don't have an official caterer...who cuts my cake? My wedding is at a banquet hall so there is no coordinator that works for the hall. Everything is left up to me. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Who cuts the cake??

  • You absolutely need to hire people to handle your food for you.  Do not force your guests to work at your wedding, even your families. Budget is not an excuse.  You need to make sure food is set out and cleaned up, dishes kept full, that all food is kept at the proper hot or cold temperature to prevent food poisoning, repackaged properly afterwards so you can take it home, etc.  That will include cutting the cake, and boxing it up for you to take home after.  This should have been counted in your budget from the beginning, but if you didn't do that, you'll have to cut back somewhere else to afford it.

I'm surprised that your hall doesn't provide this kind of help.  If you or your families attend church, they may have a committee that you can hire for this, or a youth group.  Or, like PP said, culinary school students might be available. But you need to pay them.
