Champagne Flutes

Hello!

Just wondering - do we REALLY need to get personalized champagne flutes for toasting, and a personalized cake cutter/server? Or would it be okay to save some money and just use what is available? We got some estimates on the flutes we somewhat liked, and it sounds like we'd be paying at least $50 for each. I don't really forsee us using them again, so they would likely just collect dust unless we had some sort of display case that kept them looking clean.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

No.  These are really just huge money wasters.  We used the knife my parents used at their wedding.  Eventually I'll have wedding dates engraved on the blade and pass it down to my niece or nephew when they get married.

ETA - my parents names and wedding date, our names and wedding date.  The next generation can do the same.  We have a family Baptismal gown that has the name and Baptism date of every baby who wore it embroidered on it so this is something of a tradition in my family.

  • Not necessary.  We're toasting with whatever the reception venue has.  FI really wanted a server set, so we got an inexpensive one (he hasn't really asked for much), but I was planning on using the venue's server too.
  • No, you do not really need to have those things.  We were given both the cake set and toasting flutes as gifts from my son and his fiancee.  They are engraved with our names & wedding date and I love them!

  • My sister bought us toasting flutes (we didn't engrave them) for our wedding and even though they were filled with our drink of choice we never drank out of them.  I will probably pull them out for our one year anniversary just because.

As for cutting the cake, we used a cake that the venue had on hand.

To be honest, these things are just a waste of money.  What are you going to do with them once the wedding is over, especially if you engrave them?  If you didn't personalize them you could at least pass them on to your children or niece/nephews.

  • BTW: Ours were engraved before they were given to us.

Toasting flutes are a huge waste of money. My grandma found the set I am using at a second hand shop where she volunteers. My cake cutting knife is my FMIL they have a tradition where everyone uses it all my FI sisters used it and its engraved with everyone's wedding date.
  • I registered for mine and got them at my shower.  If I hadn't, I would have just used whatever the hotel provided.

This. I now have 3 sets of champagne flutes...
  • I'll never get my FI to drink champagne so we're skipping the flutes, we're just going to toast with whatever we're drinking from the venue.  And as for the cake cutter, no it's definitely not necessary but I wanted something nice for the pics so I bought a cheapy off of Amazon for $8!  You dont' have to spend a ton of money on these things!
  • We just used what the venue had.  Still married and happy!

  • You definitely don't need personalized flutes or serving sets.  I am thinking of buying some flutes from the thrift store and then personalizing them with ribbons I already ordered with our names and wedding date.  I saw a serving set for $10 I might get.  I woudl like to personalize it but if it's too much, I'll just skip it.
