Cake slice sizes

Our baker is making us a 4-tier cake that will feed about 120 people (square tiers, 12"- 10" - 8" - 6"), but the size of slice that she bases this on is 1 1/4" thick, 2 1/4" wide, and 3 3/4" tall.  That doesn't seem very large to me, and since we're having 4 flavors, and the plated slices will be self-serve, I'm worried that, since the slices are fairly small, people will take more than one before other people have a chance to get any at all. As you can probably tell, I really like my cake, and if I were a guest, I'd love to have the opportunity to try at least 2 flavors especially since they're on the small side.  I'd just feel really, really bad if someone got left out because someone else had to be a pig and not wait until everyone had a chance first.

For those of you who have had your weddings already, how large did your slices end up being, and did you have enough, too much, or not enough?

If you like cake as much as I do definitely get a bigger cake.. if you're hesitant about it, then go big of go home! There's nothing wrong with leftovers :-)

    Best of luck! xo

from the weddings i've been to, that sounds about right for a slice of cake, and i would guess maybe one or two people might go get extra. but it definitely wouldn't hurt to get a bigger cake! if its not within your budget though i wouldnt stress over it

LOL! I'd totally take more than one piece too. We had 31 people and I got enough cake for 50-60. Yes, there were leftovers, and yes, they made for the best breakfasts EVER.

Remember that you are paying by the slice - the baker's slice.  So even if you cut the slices bigger and only get 100 servings instead of 120 servings you are still paying for 120 servings, because that is what the baker says you are suppose to get.

Standard serving size for a wedding cake is 8 sq. inces.  Usually the slices are 1" x 2" x 4".  In this case your baker is giving you 10.5 sq. inches.  You are already getting a larger than standard slice.
