Saturday!

Anyone else around?

H has class all day today, and I have a zillion errands to run and things to clean. No energy to do them at this point ... I'm up feeding the dog, but hoping to go back to bed.

Last night was disappointing. Our puppy peed in the house ... again. That's the third time. She really is house-broken, so I'm not sure why she sometimes does this in our bedroom. The worst part is that it was right after her second long walk of the day and additional time outside to go to the bathroom (she didn't seem interested).

I'm over it now. Normal part of her getting used to us. It's only been a week and she's still a puppy. All that jazz. He is the one that made me feel better when I first discovered it ... he said "look how much joy she's already brought to our lives; this is nothing compared to that." Awwww!

Re: Saturday!

  • MarieSD -- It will get better.  She's still getting used to you two, your house, and your expectations.  Sometimes they do things we don't understand, and some dogs honestly have an easier time with being housebroken than others.  We've had three shih tzus -- two have been deathly afraid of peeing in the house.  The one my brother has right now doesn't like to upset us so the ONLY times she ever pees or poops in the house is when its storming or she's been left for 12+ hours.  But our last shih tzu?  She was housebroken... but she peed all over the carpet ALL the time.  My mom would get so frustrated.  My parents work at home so they are almost always home to let her out, but sometimes I guess she just didn't feel like putting in the energy to knock on the blinds???

I'm around for now, anyway.  I was going to try to go to an Al-Anon meeting this morning at 9:30 but I'm so friggin' tired.  I may just go to the one tomorrow at 4:00 PM instead.  I even went to bed last night between 10-11 and I'm still this tired.  Ugh.

Going to look at an apartment in Plano today, eat lunch with my mom and my aunts, maybe go to the wedding venue and ask a few questions, and run by Office Max to pick up some print-at-home business cards.  Invites should be here on Monday and I'm so ready to get them started!

  • Marie SD-It doesn't get better!  There were so many times when I came home from working 10 hours, and find our puppy had gone potty in her cage.  You just have to remember that they're young, they can't always hold/control their bladders.  Now she's 2 1/2 and the most spoiled amazing puppy!

I have an appointment to take the dog go to the groomer today, since she's going to be in our e-pics that are supposed to happen tomorrow.

And my MOH and I are going to David's Bridal because they have a sale on some BM dresses.  Might as well get them for 50% off if we can!

OH, and I will be obsessively checking the weather to try to find out how rainy it's going to be in Irving at 9am tomorrow.

  • I'm putting off going into work. I wanted to sleep in, but FI woke up at 6 to go work the Film Festival all day.
I promised the dog I would take him outside to throw the ball before I left for work, and I'm fairly certain he's going to hold me to it.
  • I'm going to a book club this morning and I'll be picking a room to work in when I come home.  This evening, Bill will be playing video games with his brother online and I'll find something to do to occupy my time.

Please tell me the bolded is a typo. I read that and my heart stopped, thinking you were going to tell me that's a sign she'll never obey, she's a stubborn dog, etc. But the rest of your comment is reassuring, thank you! She's never gone in her crate -- just in the bedroom (carpeted) and always right after I've given her time outside to go. Oh well. She's not allowed in our bedroom anymore, except when she's in our bed (at bedtime) and that'll be taken away if she starts getting off the bed to go then. So, no temptation.

    Thank you too, Angelsong.

The supportive comments mean SO much -- and this is just about housebreaking a puppy which is not worth getting upset over, I know. I just need reassurance I'm doing all the right things and this is just a matter of time.

I'm researching things to do in Florida. We've decided to take a long vacation to the beach in June as part summer vacation/part delayed anniversary trip. I'm thinking of doing one day at DW, since it's less than an hour away.

Oh! And April 30 is our anniversary, and since the traditional first year gift is paper, I'm going to get H a gift certificate for private surfing lessons while we're there. He has mentioned wanting to learn a zillion times, and having a whole week there, he can have multiple lessons and really learn how. I'm so excited, and I don't know how I'll keep it a secret until the 30th.
  • MarieSD- it does get better. The puppy is still going through the I'm getting used to my new surroundings phase, so don't stress to much over it.
I'm going to just chill most of the day. getting my haircut this afternoon and tonight heading to Dallas. My FI is taking me out to dinner and we are staying at the W tonight and probably go to the Ghost Bar for my birthday.

  • Today is my last day at my old job. Monday I'll start a new one. It's really weird being here knowing that I won't see these people anymore after 3 years. It's good though, moving on somewhere knew.

Tonight we are meeting Fi's best friend who's saying goodbye as he's leaving for afghanistan. Sad as he's wondering if he'll make it back. I don't envy army wives, but definately admire them.

  • Back in Dallas.  I took Friday off (and no sub showed up -- yay) and drove up to OKC to look at houses with H.  We found two that we really like, except one of them has major drainage issues in the backyard and side of the house.  Nothing actually gets INTO the house, but it is a major issue.  Unfortunately, the house has lots of good qualities, too, so I am having a hard time convincing H to let it go.  The other one is really, really nice, but we'd have to put in the grass and fence (not a bad deal) and the yard is small-ish.

Here are links to both houses:

We had actually planned on leaving yesterday afternoon, but when the weather got bad, we decided to check back into our hotel and stay another day.  We ended up being just fine, but there was a tornado that touched down in Norman just about the time I would have been driving through if I'd left, so I'm glad we waited.

Now I'm going to head to Jorg's with some friends, and I am excited.  Afterward I think I'll unpack and clean around the apartment.  We're hoping to have a house ASAP, so hopefully we'll be getting out of our storage unit soon!

  • Amanda - I know it's just pictures, but I like the second one SO much more. The layout has a lot more storage (and a mud room!), and the ceiling features and kitchen are SO cute!
I know if can be completely different in person, but that's my opinion.
  • I like the second one so much better too! It seems like such a nice open layout, and everything's just so pretty! Your making me want a house now...Fi and I haven't even talked about when we want that to happen yet. Although we have a contract on our townhome till January of 2013, which will make me more patient lol.

<div>I totally agree with you.  It has so many unique features (like little cutouts for pictures and decoration in the entryway and shelves above all the closets and a WAYAWESOME master shower).  The first house is built to be completely energy efficient and even has features that are American Lung Assoc. approved, so H, having terrible allergies and asthma, really loves it.  I just don't think we can deal with a yard we can't use.</div>

<div>See, we were thinking that, but the guy who lives next door (whose yard is WAY worse) said he's been after them (the builder) for years to fix the problems, and they've done very little except put in a culvert under the sidewalk and a little stone barrier between his yard and "ours."  They built the houses behind his (and the one we want) higher up, and the lot beside the one we want is also higher, so the water just flows down.  I would worry that we'd fight with them the whole time we're there and never get anything done.</div><div>

    Haha, okay good :)

FWIW, my "puppy" is about one year old already. She's just new to me. But I talked to a trainer at Petsmart today and she told me it's just issues with her settling in, and it'll stop. Of course, it happened again today. And I'm being so careful and watching her 95% of the time (she does it when I take my eyes off her for 2 seconds, seriously).

The next step would be to crate her every second I'm not actively playing with her, and I really don't want to do that.

That would be my worry too. You already know (from the neighbor) that the builder isn't easy to work with and doesn't take responsibility for their own problems ... I personally wouldn't want to have anything to do with them. But I never worked with a builder myself, so I don't know how much interaction you'd have to have with them.
  • It's a new enough neighborhood that the builder still has an office right there onsite, and the house is right down the street, so I'd imagine it would be frequent.  =)

We're probably going to try to go back next weekend and either look at these two houses again or look for some houses that aren't new construction and hopefully make a decision.  H feels really rushed because they're already having him go to jobs in Western OK, so he needs to move out there ASAP.

  • FWIW, I LOVE the second house.  It has some really unique features and doesn't feel as "cookie cutter" as the first house.  The one thing I don't like about the second house it that is appears to have quite a few less windows, and I love natural sunlight.  When we were looking at houses, too few windows was a dealbreaker for me.  But wow, that is a COOL house.  I love the kitchen/living room space and then the ceiling in the master is awesome.

I can understand where your H is coming from -- I have terrible allergies.  However, using the top-of-the-line Filtrete air filters, using dustmite killer on the carpets, and using allergen covers on our bedding has REALLY helped.

I think if you'll do a lot of entertaining (and since you are already getting the furniture) It'd be better to have somewhere to put it rather thantaking away your offie space.
