Help!! Hampton, VA weddings or Ft Monroe?

Hey everyone! I've been engaged since June 15th 2009 and our wedding is in May 2011. I know its extremely early to plan but I live in Atlanta :-P and my FI is in VA. I want to have my ceremony at Hampton University Chapel (the college I graduated from) but I am having a hard time finding a reception site. I looked at the near by hotels but they are extremely expensive for 300 guests. Does anybody have any suggestions to locations that are nearby or in surrounding cities? I wanted to do it in my hometown (Portsmouth) but I'm out of ideas. I am open to rental sites, halls, hotels. :-) Thanks

Hi! We have soo much in common. I am getting married May 2010 at Ft. Monroe and I currently live in Clemson, SC (2 hours from Atlanta). My FI lives in Va Beach so we are planning long distance. I am having my reception at the Crowne Plaza Hampton Marina but with only 120 guests or so... It would def be too much money for 300. You should check out the Bay Breeze Community Center inside Ft. Monroe. The prices were awesome! Probably around $25 a plate which is far cheaper than most any hotel in the area. We did not choose it because of the availability on Memorial Day weekend. Wow we really do! We were looking at the Crowne Plaza at first but it is expensive for 300. The perks are awesome though :-(. Thank you for the suggestion. The price and location are great for Ft. Monroe. I will be sure to look into it some more, thanks :-).
