winery recs?

hi ladies! i'm visiting from the NC board :)

does anyone have a fave winery in the VA area? i would like to take FI on a weekend getaway for his upcoming bday. i'm looking for good wine, but more concerned with the area- is there on-site lodging? a hotel nearby? is the winery near any fun town/area?

just want to make sure there will be enough to do for a whole weekend..thanks!!

This web-site should help. I don't know how far you plan on driving but I have had several friends visit Chateau Morrisette and they loved it. They have several wines that are good. The winery is located along the Blue Ridge Parkway which is gorgeous this time of year with the leaves changing and the mountains.

Im not sure.. but I would think Williamsburg has a winery.. there are a lot of activities, parks, site seeing. I would also suggest Busch Gardens, but they just ended their season this weekend.

Go to Charlottesville. There's tons of wineries there. My faves - Delfosse and First Colony - are on the Monticello Trail  http://www.monticellowinetrail.com/#/home. Veritas is very beautiful and Cardinal Pointe has some tasty wines. (note: Kluge Estate just closed this week)

Hotels abound in Charlottesville, you could even find a cute B&B. It's a historic town with Monticello and University of VA is there.  So, tons to do outside of winery touring.

Chateau Morrisette is a great place and right off the Blue Rdge parkway ... They have special events from time to time and they do have dinning at the vineyard.
