Who is closer to their family?
FI is close with his parents, and is an only child. The rest of his family? It's all split up and divided with feuds he really don't know much about. He just made overtures to contact an uncle he was close to as a child but who hasn't spoken to his dad (the uncle's brother) in over a decade. He was fretting about what to include because the uncle might be suspicious that he wants to get in touch, wondering what FI wants from him.
My family just isn't like that. Sadly, we're not like all living near each other so time definitely goes on where we don't see each other, but when we do we're good. Family drama does happen, but we forgive each other in time and there's no feuds. The worst we have are some unspoken secrets that I didn't find out about until I was an adult (like a divorce no one mentions that happened and an abortion no one mentions, etc).
Ryan isn't the feuding type himself. He wants to make peace with his family... but he's afraid if he invites them in they'll sabatoge our future because apparently some of his family members do stuff like that. Like one relative called up the embassy another family member was applying for a visa from and informed them that person was a bad person. I was like "What? Why would they do that?" and Ryan said he iddn't know, it's just some people can't stand to see other people happy.
It makes me wonder how I'm going to fit in, because I'd love to help bring some healing, but I also don't want to open up a can of worms I can't handle.
What about your future families? Are you equally close or distant from them? Is there any relative you have issues with?
