July 2012 Weddings

Crankypants (vent)

This weather sucks. I absolutely hate the rain.

My mom is driving me crazy. The wedding plans change DAILY because she keeps changing what she wants to do. We had plans set in place for nearly a year and she just informs me today she's not doing something anymore (which several other vendors are based on). Wtf? Can we please stop changing things? And then she changes the floral budget. And then she hates her dress which she spent more on than many wedding gowns (thousands), and wants to get another one (which I think is why she is changing our plans, to be honest).

I hate my job and am going to be here till 3am again tonight. I had to cancel a doctor's appointment last night that I really needed to go to because I was stuck at this god-awful place.

And I didn't get enough sleep last night (see above) so I'm especially cranky and have a headache. And I can't get to the gym today either.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

  • what is it that your mom changed?!?

And you shouldn't have to cancel doctors apointments for your job, that just sucks.

I have had trouble sleeping lately too. it's the stress and the time of the year and the approaching wedding. BLAH.
  • Oh no, that stinks! Maybe she is just having a bleh day herself, and she will change her mind back? Can you just explain that it's too late to change whatever it is... since your vendors are already planning for it?

  • She is cutting things left and right that we had planned on and I think the reason is that she wants to buy herself (another) new dress. Most recently, she doesn't want to bring the furniture for the outdoor lounge, citing that we would "have to rent a truck for four days rather than one" which is absolutely absurd and I have no idea why that has any effect on the truck we need to rent? We need to rent the truck anyway to get the various signage, pictures, decor, etc. to the reception site. What does the furniture have anything to do with it, other than we'll need a larger truck? It has no bearing on the number of days we'll need the truck, which will be one. Where did she come up with the number 4? It's BS.

And the outdoor lounge was precisely the reason we purchased extra floral arrangements, extra linens, etc. from the caterer, and contracted for overheard Italian lights. Now we have to re-do all sorts of contracts because of this, which is the last thing I need right now. I already have a billion projects to finish and have SO MUCH WORK.

I realize it's not the end of the world, but this is just the most recent of the things that she keeps changing. I can't plan a wedding when she keeps changing stuff!

  • Ugh that's so annoying!!! why is she so unhappy with her dress?? Any MOB dress that costs thousands is probably gorgeous!

I bet you feel better after venting to us :) It always makes me feel at least a wee bit better to get it off my chest!!
  • Oooh sorry! I would maybe just wait a day or two for her to get her head straight, and then just tell her everything you just told us. It definitely sounds like the reason she's citing is misinformed or just not thought out right.

We had issues when contracting for our RD. My FMIL was trying to suggest that we do a "standing" dinner, so that the restaurant couldn't tell exactly how many guests we had (b/c it's a flat rate per person, and family style food rather than one entree per person). My FI and I just looked at her email, stared at each other for a minute in disbelief, laughed at the ridiculousness, and then waited a day or two to respond and explain (nicely) why her idea made no sense. And then she agreed and we worked it all out, thankfully, but we were just thought she had gone BSC for a minute there. I guess it can happen to us all...

  • She doesn't like the color (which she picked) and she thinks she looks fat (she chose the dress and had it made to her body, she shouldn't have picked something so form fitting if she didn't want to worry about it).

The dress is gorgeous and honestly I have no idea why she chose that color to begin with, because it matches NOTHING but I didn't care and told her to pick whatever she wanted. Now she's saying it's too dark. Well, you're the one who picked it. I wasn't going to tell you what to wear, so now you're stuck with it.

    UGH.

yes, I feel better now :)

  • I'm sorry :(

I don't have much to add that hasn't been said, but hopefully things will turn around soon for you. And, I'm sure your mom is just stressed and her dress situation isn't helping anything. Do you have a pic of her dress. After this thread and the other one you posted about it, I'm intrigued.

  • I have a picture on my camera, but because I haven't been home that much since I returned from this weekend, I haven't had a chance to upload it. The photo isn't very good but I will upload later since she wants me to send it to her too, probably so she can complain about it some more.

it's a mermaid style with a small train in the back, in a dark plum silk charmeuse. It has ruching in the bodice, with a soft sweetheart neckline and cap sleeves. The top part of it, right around the bust and on the cap sleeves, has an intricate pattern of pearls and crystals. The top of the back of the dress is open (only right at the top), with a criss-cross of tiny straps which are also covered in pearls/crystals.

It really is pretty. She looked around for dresses since August of last year and decided to order this one because she couldn't find anything she liked off the rack. Now she hates it. Meanwhile, I got the third dress I tried on and only spent one day shopping. She's gone a little bit overboard on this.

I reailze this is all totally absurd that I am getting all worked up about it, but I think it's just the combination of all of this with the rest of my life that's making me nuts.

I just wish she wouldn't keep changing things around.

It really, really is. I think she's just being a drama queen, as usual. :)

  • I have been really curious and wanted to see it too :) it sounds absolutely stunning...and I think it's nice that it doesn't match your wedding colors and is what she wanted (at least what she thought she wanted the first time around).  It also sounds like she is being way more dramatic about her dress than you have been about anything WR at all!
