Input about Bridal Shops

I've heard equally good and bad things about some of the bridal shops in the area. I was just wondering if anyone has a story they wish to tell, a place they recommend or don't recommend.

Thanks!

    Ok, here goes:
Atlas- I have bought two bridesmaid dresses there and both times the sale clerks have been super helpful and nice.  I have stopped in there a few times to look at swatches and all the sales clerks have been super courteous.  After I got engaged, I went there to try on a few dresses.  The lady helping me was helpful.  She had me pull some dresses I wanted to try on, and then she pulled a few more that she thought I would like.  I didn't buy a dress that day, but she wrote down the styles I liked.  The only problem I encountered were the lack of dresses in larger sizes.  I wear a 14, and most of the dresses I wanted to try on were an 8 and didnt fit over my hips.
I went back to Atlas about a month after I first went to try on dresses because they were having a $99 sale.  I ended up buying two dresses because I couldn't decide which one I wanted and I didn't want to sit and think on it because I was afraid they would sell it.  I am very happy with my dresses.  I haven't 100% decided which one I want to wear, but my Maggie Sottero one looks so good on, I will probably wear that one.  My mom is trying to talk me into wearing one for the ceremony and one for the reception, but I don't know about that yet.  Atlas doesn't have the best reputation on this board, but I love them.

Gallippos- I tried on a few dresses here before I bought mine at Atlas.  The lady was very nice and I tried on some beautiful dresses.  Some dresses are pretty expensive, but they also had some cheaper ones.  They do rip the tag out of their dresses so you cant shop around and check prices, which is annoying.

Davids- I did not try on wedding dresses here.  I have bought several bridesmaid dresses from them.  My main problem with them is that they are always super busy and took awhile to find my bridesmaid dress that I ordered.

Anyway, my two cents.  Good luck dress shopping. :)

Below is my $99 Maggie Sottero dress from Atlas :)

I just wanted to say that for all the bad wrap it gets, I loved David's in Toledo.

I didn't look at Atlas other than for bm dresses (for another wedding), but I would definintely recommend going there on a non-Saturday.  The place was PACKED and it is not a large store.

Atlas - I spent about 2 hours there trying on dress' and was very happy  with the service.  The girl I was working with kept grabbing more dress' for me to try and was very patient with us.  She wrote down my fav dress for me also.  I ended up not getting anything there though.  Also, I wasn't very impressed with the BM dress selection in the store.

Barbra's House of Bridal - Horrific experience.  it's in an actual house that is in bad need of repair.  The women who was running it didn't really go out of her to impress me.... as in, ratty jeans and top.  She didn't even give me a chance to take my clothes off before trying on items.  I had to ask her to stop just so i could get my shirt off, nothing else though.  I had to try on in jeans!  However,  her dress line was my favorite I looked at (Da Vinci line).

Davids - The girl I made my appointment with left us waiting forever, so they paired us up with someone else.  I wasn't happy at first, but she ended up being the best person I've ever worked with.  She had a BM she was working with also, but yet, I never felt ignored or unattended.  She'd help me get a dress on, get me on the pedastal and then go work with the BM for a bit and come back.  I liked being able to talk to my girls about the dress without a sales person around.  Also, on the dress I decided, she sold me on the whole package.... tiara and veil too.  I wasn't even planning on wearing a veil, but she really did a good job selling it!  And now I'm glad I did.

I bought my dress at David's and had a great experience there.  Yes, they're almost always very busy, but their consultants are really good at giving personal, friendly service.  I was quite happy with my experience there.

I've been to Atlas with two friends as they tried on dresses, and the service there was good both times as well.  It's a little cramped, but the selection was nice and the consultants were very friendly.

okay, this is going to sound dumb, but i'm *planning* on buying my dress this week,  2 years in advance. My MOH is my best friend and she got really excited when my fiance and i got engaged and suggested we just start looking for dresses, as did my mom. i felt really silly about going so soon, but it's fun so i agreed :)

The first place we went was David's Bridal. First time in the store, they went to measure me and did so OVER a northface jacket i was wearing and my jeans... the girl said according to measurements i'd be a size 6 or 8 (street size i'm a 0-2), and iknow that wedding dresses tend to run large so it did't phase me, i just didn't understand why they would measure me over a bulky jacket (?). anyways, went back a second time with my mom and had and had a much better expiriance! The lady that we worked with was excellent. She measured me properly (i turned out to be a size 2, NOT 6-8) and picked out numerous dresses she thought would suit my body type. Overall, good experiance with DB in toledo :)

Gallippos in toledo was ABSOLOUTLEY AMAZING! I had read some bad reviews about it online, about having to pay money to try on dress( NOT TRUE) etc. but  I made an appointment and planned to just go and get more of an idea what i would like in a dress, what types of styles i liked and whatnot. I picked out a few dresses to try on, my friend and sister picked out a few and the sales clerk picked out a few.  I FELL IN LOVE with the very first dress i tried on. you hear stories about when you find your dress you just know and you need to stop looking? well this was it. i had tears in my eyes i loved it so much! anyways, the sales lady was VERY accomodating and helpful, even gave me the designers name and the style number( something that they are not supposed to do) so that my mom could look at it on her work computer. They offer great promotions as well, if you buy the dress that day you get a discount (20%off i think..) and then if you buy the dress from the store as opposed to having them order it you get another discount as well which is nice because the dresses can be very pricey.
I tried on lots more dresses at gallippos and the woman who was working with me was very helpful!! she didn't seem to be in a rush to get done with me and always gave me her honest opinion which i value.
needless to say i didn't like any of the other dresses i tried on, i kept comparing to the first one. but Gallippos would be my number one reccommendation in the toledo area! AWESOME!

sorry this post was so long! he he!
    hope it's helpful! :)

I've been engaged twice, married once and have had great experiences both times at Atlas.  They've always been very helpful and patient.

I've had two bad experiences with David's.  The first time, I went for my BF's wedding.  They measured her way too large then charged her $200 to take her dress in 6".  They also called her and yelled at her for not ordering her BM dresses in time, when it was their fault that they had not been ordered.

When I got engaged the second time, I made an appointment at David's.  I waited over 1/2 an hour for someone to help me.  I told my consultant which styles I was interested in and she continually kept pulling dresses I did not like.  We finally just left.  My friends also got yelled at because they were going through the racks finding dresses they thought I would like.

Gallippo's was nice.  I had to wait a long time again for a fitting room, when I had an appointment.  They were helpful and friendly.  Their dresses are pretty pricey.  After all their "discounts", the dress I chose was still more expensive than the suggested retail price on the designer's website.

And Barbara's is a little scary, but she has tons of BM dresses.  That's actually where I found my BM's dresses.
