QOTD 7/6

In light of some ladies just buying their dresses, let's talk alterations.  Where did you go?  Also, what did you have done and how much did it cost if  you remember?

I went to Elegant Alterations which is in Holland.  The owner of the shop does all of the work herself.  My only negative is that she is very heavily accented so there was a slight language barrier.  However, I thought her work was wonderful!

She had to hem my dress.  Due to the detailing at the bottom, she had to take it up at the waist which was more difficult.  She sewed my sash in place.  She took in 2 of the 4 darts in the bust.  My dress had a triangle of beaded fabric that was a "removeable modesty panel" in the neckline.  Even when this was in place, it was lower than I wanted it; so I had her sew it into place higher.  She shortened the halter straps behind my neck.  Lastly she did the bustle which was super awesome and quite intricate.  The picture below doesn't do it justice.  Also this picture must have been taken after I kicked off my heels, as it looked better when it didn't drag the floor.  I believe that all of this was $270.

Pam Thomas!  She is seriously so awesome... I'm so glad I took the recs from this board to go to her.  She works out of her home and you can just tell that she loves what she does.  She seemed so excited to see and alter my dress!

I had my dress hemmed, which was a bit of a task because it was all lace and had a scalloped edge.  So, the lace at the bottom was removed, the dress hemmed, then the edge reattached.  She also took the dress in a little in the thigh area and put in an underbustle.  Her bustle was awesome... strings or something instead of buttons?  It held secure all night.  I think it was $190 for all of that?  I'm pretty sure it was under 200.

I also used Pam Thomas - she rocks!! :)

I had a multi-point bustle done, some alterations to the top of the dress, and had snaps sewn onto the dress and my bra to attach them together.  I also bought my veil and headband/tiara from her.  And for all of that, I think it was $170ish?    Extremely reasonable prices, such a sweet lady, and really great work! :)

I listened to you ladies as well and used Pam Thomas.  1st...she's totally cool to just chat with!  2nd...she basically had to remake my dress:  Completely detached bottom and top half, took bodice in over 5 inches, raised the skirt over 5 inches from the waistline, added cups, and it had a 21 point bustle.  4 fittings total and it only cost me like $250.00.  Plus she said she hated chargin more than $200.00 for any gown alterations, so she steamed and pressed it for no extra charge. And she throws in her pretty pink garment bag for it free of charge, too.

    Love her!

She's a doll and she did amazing work!
