QOTD 9/8

I've been missing for a couple of days because I've been super busy.  DH and I are sharing a car which is a freaking pain when we both work and are both in school.  I hate it.  At least we just have to drive each other around, not kids too.

Is there anything wedding-related that you have compromised on in order to make your family happy?

Our families were pretty uninvolved in the planning which probably made it easier on us.  The only thing that stands out to me is having my FIL tell us 3 weeks before the wedding that he verbally invited a few extra people (that I had never met and that DH had met only once) and that they were coming.  We had a fairly small wedding with about 80 guests.  There were several friends and some extended family that we didn't invite to keep costs down and now we were having strangers at the wedding!  I guess we compromised by not uninviting these people.

Oh!  My aunt and my grandma are very Catholic and were borderline offended by us not having a religious ceremony in a church.  About 8 months into our planning, she called to let me know that she checked our date at her church and it was still available if we wanted to change our minds.  Thanks grandma.  Needless to say, we didn't compromise with family on this one.

So far...nothing.  One thing my parents really wanted was for us to get married in my hometown.  I said no way, I don't live there anymore and I don't want to get married there.  That was one thing I wasn't compromising on.

My mom has practically been begging me to do chair covers and I wasn't really planning on doing it, but I may just for her.

I can see a fight over the guest list coming as we get closer to the wedding.  Our room holds 225 and I only plan on inviting that many people.  I can see my mom trying to talk me into inviting more than what my room can hold because most of my guests will be out of town and more than likely wont make the trip down here, but you never know.  I dont want to end up with more people than my room can hold and then be screwed!

Wearing a veil.  I really did not want to, but my FMIL is very conservative catholic and was not happy at all that I have a strapless dress.  So... I got a veil to make her happier with it.

The entire "at-home" wedding.  I wanted to to married on an Alaskan cruise.  However, it ended up being a beautiful wedding! I got to wear my dream dress...had we done the cruise wedding, I never would have fit it on the plane!!!  :)

The guestlist.  I wanted a much smaller wedding.  My mom said if I wanted to invite *this* cousin who I was very close with and we had sleepovers together when we were kids, then I would need to invite all these other cousins.  And then they started sticking on some random people I never met. That was a big compromise.

So far, I've gotten everything else I wanted.  But I'm paying.

I think FI had to compromise with *me* on some things.  For instance, having a Catholic wedding was very important to me.  He wanted to get married on a cruise ship with maybe 3 people in attendance.

We were gonna go to Vegas and only invite the ppl that could make it. Then come home and have a bbq.

Well, when I told my grandma that, she wouldnt talk to me for 2 weeks!  So i am having the big Maumee wedding everyone is dreaming of, yet nonone is paying for.... but me.

At this point... not gonna lie, Vegas sounds good. But, it will be beautiful and then i will be in Hawaii with my man.

I will not compromise on the champagne fountain. its the one thing i paid for just for US (well and anyone who wants it-- but you get my drift! i really wanted the effect of unlimited champage!!!) :)

I am so with the guest list!  I was thinking about 150 people, but after everyone had their input and lists, we are up to 350 - 400.  We are lucky enough to have family helping us pay for everything, or else our list would be at 50!

Ours is guest list too!  My parents have done three weddings and could care less who we invited, but for FMIL this is the first wedding so she thinks everyone needs to come.  Right now I am praying for people to send declines or we are in trouble.  Just sent the invites so the next couple weeks will tell.....

We also had to compromise and have all of our sisters in the wedding party (6 in total).  I did not want a huge wedding party, but sisters freaked out when we even suggested them not being BMs.

We are doing a small out of town wedding (about an hour away), we have rented a house with several bedrooms and have invited our families to stay with us in the house, we have asked anyone who stays with us to chip in (no set amount just a donation to go towards the rental), it is much cheaper than having to get a bunch of hotels rooms. We are paying for the entire wedding ourselves but my sister says that since we are asking people to "pay" for their rooms it is the same as "charging" people to come to our wedding!
I was so angry, I mean lets get real... my fiance and I would much rather get our own place for our wedding night but we were trying to be considerate to our families. We never told anyone they HAD to stay with us, they have the option of getting their own hotel room at a much higher rate or just coming for the day and driving home that night. My sister has now started calling my wedding the "Star Jones Wedding"....At this point I don't care if she even comes!
