Wedding Venue

I need some serious help choosing a wedding venue. I was leaning towards the Ramanda but my fiance thinks it's "ghetto". He wants the French Quarter but I think its overdecorated to get across our off-beat theme.
I hate to say I'm picky, but I'm picky. I need a place that has black table cloths and supplies the alcohol. I don't want to be responsible for trying to decide how many bottles of what to bring. We also need a place for the ceremony. We currently have 220 on our guest list. We looked at the Hiltons, but they were a little too expensive.
Opinions? Help? Please?!

A lot of venues supply alcohol, but not all venues have black table cloths. Thats kind of tough. Because black table cloths wasnt something I was specifically looking for. Im sure you have seen the drama on this board as far as venue. I would make a list of what is the absolute most important to you and call around a little and ask who has what. (hint during the day is best  like 9am-5pm) You could also send out some emails. And go see your top picks in person. People on here can be helpful, but I have found out EVERYONE has different opinions and you have to ultimately decide for yourself.
    But heres a few suggestions:
Try the coutry clubs toledo CC, Sylvania CC, Highland meadows, belmont, brandywine
The art museum, the park Inn, crowne plaza
The toledo club is pretty offbeat and unique looking
Space 237 is unique but may be too small and you would have to get your own caterer

I wouldn't necessarily hold yourself to just places that supply black tableclothes.  They can be rented relatively inexpensively.  How much are you looking to spend on the reception?  That can help us to suggest places that will fall within your budget.

That being said, we had our reception at LaRoy's Hall, which is in La Salle, MI near Monroe.  They had very reasonable packages, supplied the alcohol, and had black tablecloths available.  laroyshall.com

Thanks everyone for the help. We are trying to stay around 12 grand, but really it depends on what they are going to supply. I would rather have a place that does it all because I am not sure if I am going to be living here when we get married. My family is from the Chicago land area and his family is from Detroit and Lima. It seems like the perfect middle place to meet. However I will be graduating in 30 days and I'm not going to stay around here because of my wedding. Its very important that wherever it is though, its by a hotel because 80% of our guests will be from out of town. It's funny how much research I have done yet there are still places I haven't heard about! So I definitely appreciate the suggestions and will probably check them all out. We have already visited 10 places.

I'll try to save you some trouble, the Toledo Country Club will be out of your budget (it was more expensive than the Hiltons if I remember correctly) and Highland Meadows might be too small for you.  I remember thinking they couldn't comfortably hold as many people as they claimed.  Belmont can only hold that many people outside, which is fine if you're into an outdoor wedding.  Also consider Valleywood Country Club in Swanton.  It's not "close" to a hotel, but I think the Courtyard Marriot may have offered a shuttle there.  They love doing weddings so they'll bend over backwards to please you from what I've heard.  Also try Holland Gardens.  That was my second choice and I'm still wondering if I picked the right place haha.

We already looked at Holland Gardens. We didn't really like it. I know they didn't have the black I was looking for and their outdoor ceremony area only held about 100 people and my fiance didn't like the woman. I also thought their prices weren't well justified for what we were getting.

LaRoy's Hall looks awesome except the menu online seems to be lack-luster. Was their food good?

I thought the food was good... it wasn't my #1 priority or anything, but my DH and I thought the food was really good and that it was a great value for the money.

Go talk to Grace at Toledo Country Club. Not as expensive as you would think for what you get. It is well worth every penny.

I don't know anything about it but I heard that the Lighthouse is doing receptions now. I wouldn't even know who you would contact but it sounds like a cool place. Its right on the river.

Have you tried any of the local yacht clubs, like Toledo YC?
