The Dress

So i have no idea when to start actually going and looking and trying on dresses.  Hoping you ladies can give me some feedback on when is a good time frame to start looking and trying dresses?  My wedding is June 2012.

Start now seriously. They need at least 5-6 months for the dress to come in and another 3 to do alterations. I dreaded going because I have a weird body shape(think jlo butt haha). each of my measurements were a different size so I need a ton of alterations. They say as a guidline get your dress 9-12 months before your date. BUT styles change by season and new styles keep coming out so I would start looking now.

I would say in Toledo you only need to start looking 7-10 months before your wedding.  Give yourself a month or 2 to pick your dress and then it will take 5-7 months to come in and get alterations done.  Unfortunatly in Toledo there are not too many options as far as salons to go to, which also makes it a little easier to pick

I definitely would not start looking now if you think you will be the least bit indecisive.  I would hate for you to get a dress now and stare at it in your closet for a year and doubt your decision.  If you are just window shopping now and plan to buy later, this can also be bad if the style you like gets discontinued.  Then you will be comparing every future dress to the one you can't have.

Honestly, I would probably wait at least another 6 months and start looking this fall.  I know it's exciting now (at least for me it was one of my favorite stages of wedding prep), but it will be exciting in 6 months still too.  For now, I would just save pictures on your computer and get ideas of styles that you like and don't like.  This will give you a good place to start when you go shopping in the future.

ETA:  Not that you would want to, but you can put this off muuuuch longer.  One of my best friends bought her dress from the David's Bridal here in Toledo off the rack.  She purchased it and had it altered in just a couple of days before her weekend elopement in TN.  You will not be dress-less for your wedding, I promise!

Thanks girls!  I was worried about getting something now and then now wanting it later on.

I'm kind of worried about that too but I've just stopped looking at other dresses
