Getting in Shape

Help me get/stay motivated!

FI and I joined the local Y two months ago, and for the first time in a long time I've actually stuck with working out.  I know it hasn't been that long, but for me it's been a big accomplishment just to workout 4+ days per week.  My diet isn't bad - not the best but I do try to make good choices.  FI quit drinking soda, and gave up fast food for lent - I don't consume either of those as often as him to begin with but I have been avoiding both as well.

I am totally proud of my FI, he's down about 15 lbs, working out like 8 times a week (meaning twice on some days).  I, however, have lost zilch in two months!  Well, that may be a slight exaggeration... I have weighed myself a few times and at my lightest I was down 6 pounds.  I wasn't even thrilled with 6 pounds but last I checked I was back to square one.  I need some serious help with motivation ladies!  Send me your healthiest meal ideas, your best links, your inspiring photos, etc!  TIA!

Re: Help me get/stay motivated!

  • My suggestion is that you start tracking your food.  There are apps and great sites like MyFitnessPal and SparkPeople that are free.  Unless you know exactly what you're putting in your body, there is always the possibility that you are eating way too much or even way too little to facilitate good weight loss.  Barring medical issues, calorie counting really works.  It's a little bit of a pain sometimes but the saying around here seems to be that "weight loss is 80% diet and only 20% exercise."  I find that to be pretty true.  Count calories for a week, and then come on back and we can help you figure out what exactly is going on.

if you have any questions, that's what we're here for.  Good luck!
