Getting in Shape

P90X

I have been thinking about starting P90X to get a more toned belly.  My dress is trumpet style and while I don't really have a belly I just think I would feel more confident if I at least made an effort to do a type of exercise that tones that area. I am 5'7 145 pounds but don't really carry any extra weight in my belly-it's pretty normal looking.

I guess I am just unsure of how well the program works/who is was designed for.  I am not overly active-I just try to go on regular walks (5 miles or more) to get some exercise in.  Am I likely to see a difference if I do the workouts correctly?

What has been your experience with P90X?

Re: P90X

  • if you do the workouts correctly you will see results all over! however, it is an extreme workout, 6 days a week, at least 48 mins a day, with at least one day of 90 min yoga. FI and I started P90X over the summer when we were both a lilttle less stressed with schedules, and we were fine, howeve when when we had appointments and other schedule conflicts it became harder to fit it in together, I have modified and continued on my own, while FI has also modified and is doing on his own,(together when possible)  Even so I definitely have seen results, especially in my arms and stomach, I have increased stregnth and endurance as well. It is definitely a commitment to do 90 days, but if you do it you will see results!
    Good Luck!
  • It takes some real focus. To see results you need to work it atleast 3 times a week and it is atleast an hour (hour and a half if you do abs everytime). GREAT work out and will make you sweat but if your a 5 minute walker you may try some arobic courses first before buying a $200 program that KICK A$$!
    Good luck!
  • Some people love Tony, and some people hate him. I personally think he's hilarious. :)

I LOVE the program. It challenges you to push yourself and dig deep to achieve the results you want. I just started Phase 2 yesterday (I did Phase 1 twice because I skipped a bunch of workouts). In the first phase (doing it twice) I lost 8.6 lbs and 12 inches overall. Look at my blog here to see results:

[QUOTE]I love it, but haven't done it fully.  I've kinda picked and chosen the parts I like.  But even doing that, I've totally lost weight and toned up.  Highly recommended.  I usually play it on my computer and watch tv though.  He's pretty annoying after a while.

Me too!! I totally mute him and catch up on tv.  lol
  • I have been doing P90X for about 6 months now and I love it! Since I am in the midst of planning a wedding and working full time, I don't always stick to the 6 days a week. I probably average about 3-5 days a week, depending on how busy I am, so the first round took more than 90 days. I didn't really follow the eating guide and I did the Lean program, and I lost about 5 pounds and noticed a big difference all over my body, but especially in my legs. I loved it so much I am doing the Classic program now and following the nutrition guide and have lost another 10 pounds just in Phase 1 (which, again, is taking me longer than 30 days). I think if you follow the nutrition guide and do as Tony says and do your best and forget the rest, you'll at least see some changes. You really have nothing to lose because you can return it within 90 days if you're not happy. It is pricey, and you'll probably need to buy a pull-up bar and at least a few weights to really get the most from your results, but you'll feel amazing when you see how it changes your body. Seriously. And don't pay too much attention to the scale, because you will be building muscle. The before and after pics are what you should use to see if it's working. Good luck!
  • I am doing P90X and it works!!!!  It took me longer then 90 days to finish because like PP its really hard to workout 6 days a week with a busy schedule.  I now continue doing it and jus use the DVD's that I know I need to get in for the week.  I'm not working out 3-4 times a week to maintain my weight. I have lost 13 lbs and have a six pack and my arms are toned.  You have to be willing to push yourself and dig deep because the workouts are intense!

  • As of right now, it's the best workout program I've tried! Like everyone else has said, it can be difficult to fit it in every day..sometimes I do two workouts in one day, like cardio and an arm workout, if I know I'm going to be super busy the next day. One warning though, if you do Plyometrics the first week, know that you may have to literally roll out of bed the next day. :)
