Workout Accountability: Wednesday

Good morning, good morning!

I'm in a good mood right now because I decided to get iced coffee before work. And it's delicious.

Yesterday I channeled my stress/anger into my lift and was able to increase my reps on another circuit. It felt really good.  I also did 40 minutes on the elliptical. I skimped a bit on ab work, so I'll try and make that up today. I'm running 3-4 miles when I get home later.

How's everyone's Wednesday going? I'm trying not to registry stalk, but I already caved...I'm really excited for my shower in a couple weeks!

Re: Workout Accountability: Wednesday

  • Good call on the iced coffee, Jude, maybe I'll pick one of those up at lunch.  And way to go on the increased reps!  We registry stalked before the shower, too, but it actually turned out to be a good thing because literally every one of the places we registered (three) made a big mistake at least once.

I was too sore from Monday weights to even move yesterday.  I have already tortured myself with the foam roller a few times, and am still a mess.  It's been really irritating me because I want to get a good run in this week and my legs are so stiff and keep giving out.  I'm heading to the grocery after work, and am hoping to push through the pain for a run after that.

Good way to stress relieve Jude! And registry stalking is so bad, but yet, so so awesome Lobsters!

I ran 3 miles in the rain yesterday. It wasn't my best run, but it felt really good to get out and sweat.

I am trying to wean myself off of coffee- I only have 1 cup a day usually but with this blueberry in my belly I think it is best I cut back to none. I am afraid of the headache it might bring on right before the wedding, so I think I'll just slowly drink less until the honeymoon where maybe I can go half caf, and then full decaf.

ETA: I hope I can get some kind of work out in today, but I'm not sure. I have to drop my favors off at the venue which is like 45 minutes away- hopefully a walk can at least happen!
  • Speaking of registry stalking...I went in to add something to ours the other day and someone already bought something! My shower isn't for like another 3 months or so and I didn't mention to many people we registered so I was surprised.

Nice job with the added reps Jude! Lobsters, I hope your legs start feeling better. I hate being sore like that. kdp, I'm not sure I could ever stop the coffee!

This morning I didn't do any cardio, just lifted. Arms and shoulders. I started taking a new approach to my weights, doing 4 sets of 12-15 reps versus 2 sets of 20 and I bumped up the weight a little. I hope that starts to show more of a difference.

  • Ooooh iced coffee.  Good call!

This morning I lifted chest & did 30 minutes of intervals on the treadmill.  I had such a crappy day yesterday - I accidentally hit off rather than snooze and missed spin class in the morning, and then had my first little mini pre-wedding freakout which consisted of shutting my office door & crying on the phone to my sister & fiance for an hour.  I calmed down a bit, and hit the gym last night to lift bis/tris & did 30 minutes of intervals on the elliptical.

I feel like my meltdown was somewhat directly related to missing my morning workout.  Funny how quickly you get used to having exercise as a stress relief/outlet!

I also went to the chiropractor yesterday, which also helped my neck & my mood.  Today will be a better day!  After all, it's one day closer to the weekend!
  • Lobsters: It's probably good that I go check every once in awhile. I saw yesterday that I accidentally registered for 2 of the same crockpot. I could see people being like "Seriously? Jude needs 2 of these!?"  And make sure you get in some stretching today!

KP: Aww, little blueberry, how cute! Decaf is probably the way to go. I love the taste/smell of coffee so I could probably trick my body into it.

maribeth: There's a thread above this one where I explained my weight/rep increase system. I prefer to do heavier weights at lower reps.

reggies: Hope you're feeling better today, I get a little cranky too when I accidentally miss a workout.

  • I had a fantastic workout day yesterday.

At work was the kickoff celebration for the Walking Challenge, so they encouraged the entire office to go for a walk on the trails behind the office. That was a nice 20 minutes break from sitting at a desk!

Got to the gym after work and got in 15 minutes on the stairmaster, 30 on the elliptical and 20 minutes of weightlifting.

My fitbit told me I burned over 3,200 calories for the day and I only ate 2,000, so I felt pretty good! Still getting the hang of the fitbit but so far I like it!

  • @Jude - Just read your post! So you usually do 3 sets per exercise? How many exercises do you usually do for each muscle group? Sorry I feel like I should probably start a new thread for this! haha

maribeth: I've just always worked in 3's haha. I let my muscles dictate the reps/weight for each group, so you'll see below that I have a different rep count for some exercises.
Anyway, my upper body workout looks like this most days:

    Circuit 1:
    3 sets of
Dumbbell chest press:  10 reps w/ 30lb weights
dumbbell incline press: 10 reps w/ 30lb weights
    dumbbell row: 10 reps w/ 40lb weight

    Circuit 2:
    3 sets of
    bicep curls: 8 reps w/ 25lb weights
    tricep overhead: 8 reps w/ 25lb weight

    Circuit 3:
    3 sets of:
front db raises: 10 reps w/ 12.5lb weights
side db raises: 10 reps w/ 12.5lb weights
standing shoulder press: 10 reps w/ 12.5lb weights
tricep kick backs: 10 reps w/ 12.5lb weights

  • Hi Everyone.  Yesterday was a good day....went to my pilates and bootcamp class at the gym as planned, and stayed within my calories.  FI and I are meeting with a JP tonight to see if we want to use him for our ceremony, so I won't get a workout in tonight, but I do plan to try and walk 40 minutes or so at lunch.
  • Rest day due to angry uterus.  I'll probably walk to the grocery store for more watermelon (our current fruit obsession), but that's about it.

  • Jude - Thank you for sharing your work out! I am stealing :) Wow you can curl 25lbs?? I'm not sure I can do much more than 15lbs, but if I do less reps than maybe I could. I am just never sure I am doing enough reps for each muscle group. I am always second guessing myself when it comes to weights. I typically do a total of 135 reps (3 exercises x 3 sets of 15 reps) for each muscle group that I am working that day.

<div>The best advice I can give you there is to simply listen to your body. It knows what you can handle. When I'm doing a press and I get to rep 10 and my form is shaky, I know that is my max for that exercise.  If I can get through 12 reps perfectly fine, then I know it's time to bump the weight up a bit. Again, that's just my personal lifting schedule (which you are totally welcome to steal). If you've been doing the same 3x3 sets of 15 reps for awhile now and it's become easy, then I would say you definitely either need to increase those reps or increase the weights. </div><div>

  • Hi ladies good job everyone. Jude, I gotta love the registry stalking hahaha. Im not even close to there yet, but I did that for my baby showers. I had a good day I did insanity day 9 today, and feel awesome, I am finally at the point, where if I dont workout I am so sleepy and grumpy. I love it because that is how I get myself outta bed in the morning.
