I know how you feel.  I'm getting married in May of 2013 and my dress just arrived a month ago... I knew I had gained some weight since I had ordered it but I didn't realize I'd gained so much that it wouldn't zip up!! So now I've been dieting and exercising for a month and I've only lost 3 pounds and I need to lose 15-20...  SO I must be doing something wrong! And I'm awful at getting myself to exercise...you would think the fact that my dream wedding dress doesn't zip up would be an amazing motivating factor and it's NOT!   But enough about my current nightmare!

I think you can do it!  Maybe don't set your sights so high though.. that way you won't beat yourself up or get discouraged if the weight doesn't start falliing off? Maybe say to yourself okay.. I want to lose 10 pounds and then once you accomplish that you will feel wonderful and that would motivate you to lose another 10 and then another and another?

    I think you can do it!  that's only like a pound and a half a week! that's completely manageable!<img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />
  • The safest/most realistic goal would be to try and lose a pound a week.

What is your eating like?  What about your workout routine?
  • 50lbs in 9 months just isn't healthy :( Take it like the PP poster said. Aim for 1 to 2 lbs a week.

<div>How do you figure?  9 months with 1# a week is 36# minimum, or with 2# a week is 72#...your advice is off.</div><div>
</div><div>OP, 50# is do-able, but it won't be easy.  Many women on here use calorie counters such as Livestrong or MyFitnessPal-these are great ways to track what you eat, and also ensure that you are eating ENOUGH calories if you're exercising a lot.  Can you tell us more about your workout routine and diet?  That will help people give you advice that better fits your lifestyle.</div>
  • OP, tell us more about your lifestyle.

PPs are right; 1-2 lbs a week is healthy. And in the beginning you are likely to lose more, or lose it more easily, depending on your starting weight.

It needs to be a lifestyle change, not a diet, or it won't stick. This is a safe, supportive place to hang out. There are lots of people to offer support and motivation, but we will also tell you if we think you're doing something that's unsafe or unhealthy. You won't find this to be a place where you'll get affirmation to try fad diets - but you will find it a place to vent/cheer/cry/whine/praise.

It's a cool place to be. Welcome aboard!

  • Cbride24 50 lbs in 9 months is doable but it will require a total lifestyle change do not think of it as a diet because the moment you do you will set yourself up to fail. I am getting married in June 2013 I am starting a challenge group in Janaury that will offer accountability, motivation, support, if you want more info feel free to email me at buriostegui85@gmail.com or you can find me on facebook www.facebook.com/brenda.urios
  • YOU CAN DO IT!!   It'll take some serious butt-kicking if you are anything like me, but yes, you can do it!

I have lost just shy of 30 lbs in the last 5 months, and if I can do it, you can do it!  I am a work from home CSR who had a very bad snack problem (snack when I'm bored PLUS I'm an emotional eater) add that to the fact that after being yelled at all day I really didn't feel like getting up to exercise when I could just pop on a happy movie?  Lets just say its alarming at how quickly the lbs can add up.  Believe it or not cutting out my snacking has been the most important part of my diet, and that isn't too hard, is it?

I've started eating better and eating less; cutting out my cravings (sugary snacks and cheese), adding more veggies, grabbing water instead of a pop and really making an effort to exercise during the day - even if it's running laps around the inside of my house or backyard.  The little things add up.

GOOD LUCK!!  Don't let yourself get discouraged, I know you can do it!

This!! I am the same way with snacking and emotional eating. I know it can be done. You just have to stick to it and stay totally motivated!
