Best workout DVD for 6 wk timetable? More intense like...

Hi Ladies - Sorry if this question has been asked a bunch before!  Our engagement pics are Oct. 16th and I've been working out 3-4 times a week, but want to do something for the next 6 wks that will shed some pounds faster and that will push me.

Any suggestions???  One a couple girls mentioned on Facebook to me is 30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels, thoughts on that one?  Or any other one that kicks your butt?  Oh and also doesn't require a ton of equipment....

TIA!!!

Re: Best workout DVD for 6 wk timetable? More intense like...

  • I second the 30 Day Shred recommendation. I had no idea it would be so intense.
  • A friend of mine teaches the beach body videos at her gym.  There is one called slim in six.  If you can afford around $60 it is worth it!
  • 30-Day Shred has been good for me so far, especially since it's only $10.  It only requires a set of hand weights, no other equipment.  Jillian also has some longer workouts that are 40 or so minutes instead of 20 if you wanted to move onto those after 30-Day Shred, which are also cheap.  I haven't tried them yet though, but I bought one called Burn Fat, Boost Metabolism.  I've seen some good reviews of that on this board too.

If 30-Day Shred doesn't seem intense enough for you, you could try one of the Beach Body videos, but they are much more expensive.  Intensity is a hard-core set of cardio videos that don't require equipment, but will set you back over $100 most likely.

  • I also agree with the 30 Day Shred (~30 minutes with warm up and cool down).

I have Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism, but it was too frustrating not to be able to finish it. The good thing about this video is that you don't need any equipment. (40 minutes)

I recently bought No More Trouble Zones which I have a love-hate relationship with. You'll need dumbbells (they use 3 lbs). I curse this workout the entire way through but I am soo glad I did it when I'm done. (~ 50 minutes with warm up and cool down)

No More Trouble Zones has to be my favorite. One of the reviews on amazon said it best - if you love 30 Day Shred but hate the cardio parts, go with No More Trouble Zones.

I love these videos, but I think the workout schedule Jillian recommends (every day) is just plain dumb. I know some people actually do the 30 day shred the way she recommends to do it (every day - God bless them) - this would have killed me. I think its better to do these every other day so your body has time to recover. Without recover you'll just injure yourself and your muscle won't have time to rebuild.

    Good luck! Smile

  • I recommend the 100 pushup challenge. Its a 6-week program and I definitely saw a difference in my arms!

  • I agree with PP for 30 day sherd. You can get it off amazon for about $10 and it kicks your butt! I still haven't gotten to level 3....
  • Billy Blanks bootcamp elite just kicked my ass! (bought at wal mart in the sports section, comes with everything you need)
I am thinking about getting 30-Day shred as I have heard a lot of good success stories from it.

  • If you have exercise TV, you can get 30 Day Shred on demand for free.  Many people with Time Warner Cable have that channel. I wish I had known that before I bought it. Then I wouldn't have to listen to her instructions everytime I do the workout.   Also, exercise TV has 30 Day Shred and many other workout videos online on their website, again, for free at exercisetv.tv.  I keep telling myself I'm  going to try some of the workouts on there, but I've been kinda lazy.

  • Correction, they no longer offer Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred for free on Exercise TV's website, they charge you to download it.  But they still have alot of other workouts on the site that are free and I'm pretty sure you can still get it free if you have Exercise TV On Demand through your cable.

  • tychandler,  thanks for the tip about Exercise TV On Demand.  I just looked under the Jillian Michaels menu option, and she has 30 Day Shred Level 1, Banish Fat Boost Metabolism, Quick Trouble Zones, and Yoga Meltdown Level 1.

If you buy the actual 30 Day Shred video, there are 3 levels of the workout to build up to.  It looks like TV version only has the easiest level.  If you want the full workout, you'd likely need to buy the video.  At least it's only $10 for all 3!

They use to have all three, I guess that's the downside about Exercise TV, they keep changing up their On Demand menu.  Last time I went on Exercise TV they didnt' have Banish Fat or Quick Trouble Zones.  Switching up like that will certainly mess you up if you have a routine.  Well at least you get to try it before you buy it

  • If you're in a place where you can run, I recommend the couch potato to 5k podcasts.  They are free and running is always a good way for me to lose overall.

Jillian Michaels is also really great, no one can argue with that.
