Hamburger Recipes

I buy 1lb lean hamburger in bulk at costco because it is so much cheaper than anywhere else.. However, I am running out of ideas of what to use it in.. Tacos, hamburgers, pasta... and I am lost.. anyone have any good recipes to use hamburger in?

Re: Hamburger Recipes

  • I know that you already listed hamburgers but have you tried adding stuff to the hamgburgers like mixing an au jus packet into the hamburger and chopped onions or things like that? Also, growing up my mom used to make mashed potatoes or egg noodles with gravy and hamburger and it's soooo good! Or you can do nachos! you can make those really healthy by using baked whole grain chips, your lean hamburger, fat free cheese and top with with fresh salsa and veggies!! Yum!

  • Oh yeah and meatloaf or tatter tot hot dish. I don't have any recipes for those but I use the food network a lot to look up recipes. That hamburger and gravy idea I listed above is pretty self explanatory.... brown the hamburger and any veggies if you like (onion, mushrooms, etc.) then add the gravy and let that cook for a little while and cook the noodles or potatoes. then just place the noodles or potatoes on your plate and pour the gravy mixture on top! Enjoy!

  • you can add some of that ground beef to chili - lots of beans and veggies in it too. also, you can make a mean dip for chips, add some hamburger meat to some healthy salsa, fresh peppers, and sprinkle some low-fat cheese ontop. probably not the healthiest, but yummy! you could also make quesadillas with whole wheat tortillas and some low fat cheese. now im hungry.

Where do I start... texas hash (just google it, most recipes are the same), there is a ground beef recipe my mom makes but Ive not quite mastered it - you brown the meat, drain the grease, add a bit of flour and water and make it into a gravy, season and simmer to the consistancy you want and eat. You could put it into home made ravioli, meatloaf, mini hamburg patties (the options are ENDLESS there)...
  • My grandma makes what she calles chop meat and spaghetti (sp). She takes the hamburger with elbow noodles (cooked of course)  browns the meat and seasons with pepper, salt, garlic powder, seasoned salt, then adds onions and green and red peper simmers until meat is done then adds 1 can of tomoato soup until warm. I think that is it but it is SOOOOO GOOD! Im sure I forgot something, since I have not made this for a long time. It always tasted the best when grandma made it so I never do.
  • I have a similar recipe as the last person.  one pound of meat browned, with 1/2 cup onion, 1 tbs chili powder, 1 cup elbow macaroni, 1 8 oz can of tomato sauce, and 1 cup of water.  Let it simmer until the macaroni is cooked.  Top with fat free ceddar or mozzarella cheese.  Very yummy.  I have some with a nice salad.
  • I like the idea that mum and silver gave... sounds yummy and like a dish my grandma-like babysitter used to make. In the winter, we make a lot of taco soup and use hamburger in it. You can do anything with taco soup and use up a lot of leftovers in it. I use canned diced tomatoes, water, and taco seasoning as the base and add everything else from there. Usually corn or hominy, beans (kidney and/or black), onions (if I feel like chopping them), then top with sour cream and cheese. You can scrounge around your fridge for other stuff to throw in... like some leftover meat from something, that half bowl of chili you have no idea what to do with, the 10 green beans you saved, the half of a baked potato, etc.

  • This site has tons of good recipes, here's a link to the ground beef ones. I know everyone on the WW boards loves the Unstuffed Cabbage, but I haven't tried it yet:http://www.freewebs.com/hwc1973/groundbeefrecipes.htm
