In Response to Re: PIck my Venue! : <strong> I think her original post said she asked when she booked if they had anything and they said no.  A couple months later they said they had booked something for that weekend years in advance.   I can see how this could be misconstrued as her feeling they are dishonest to a point.</strong> As for the block, I agree. Unfortunately, some things just get overlooked.  I think it's a good lesson for all of us ETA: I am in no way saying I think the Omni is dishonest (apparently that wasn't clear).  I am saying that she felt they were, thus her wanting to move venues so late in the game in response to folks asking.  I think we got a clearer picture of the crazy sitation on Friday night at the G2G than her post explained.  To each their own I guess.   Either way, it will come out beautifully and serves as a lesson for all of us to plan well and get things in writing.

I know this is over but, again, the people in charge of the are in a separate department and, if you're talking to the catering people, they're not going to necessarily know about that, especially if they're not using any meeting space at the hotel.  I would not call the catering staff about reservations at a hotel.
Kendall- So True! A big lesson learned. I did feel like the Omni was dishonest in telling me there was no convention when in fact they were already booked solid. I was told to do a discount coupon code instead of blocking 50 rooms because I would have to have that amount held on my CC. She said to not worry about this. So I trusted what she said. This situation was the last straw... I started to become apprehensive when she was unresponsive to my question emails and didn't want to schedule my tasting ect... Then when we went to the tasting the options were so limited it wasn't anything they claimed to offer. So I felt I was having to settle on a lot that was promised. Posted by marksle84
I assume, since you were talking about blocking 50 rooms versus using a coupon code, that you were talking to a group blocking specialist or at least someone in the reservations dept, not catering, right?

Thanks for posting that explanation. I could only block 10 rooms at a time or else I would be charged (at the particular hotels I used). And, that's very strange they wouldn't let you offer 3 entrees like you wanted, taste different options, etc -- but I have heard this happen to at least one other bride in my year or so of lurking/posting here.

I think it's good that you chose to find a venue that would better suit you (provided you got your entire deposit back -- I hate when people lose deposits!). I just went along with it when several vendors I worked with changed their minds/changed their policies at the last minute without trying to argue. It was on me for not getting every little thing in writing, yes. But I also always prefer to reward vendors with clear-cut policies and no "unfortunate mix-ups" with my money.

Actually, her original post said that she booked them a year ago and just now found out about the convention. They might not have known about this convention until recently, even if they held it there for the past few years. It might have easily gone to another hotel, they can't depend on things like that. You can't expect a convention hotel to not have a convention on your wedding weekend. And if you needed more rooms from the beginning, you should have blocked those, no matter what. You wanted to save a few bucks with the coupon code, and it didn't go your way. You can't put that all on the hotel.
Just my opinion, not trying to be snarky in any way.

ETA: I can also understand the limited tasting choices now. They might buy things in bulk for events, and if they have to create many separate meals for you, they have to order a ton of stuff to get each ingredient. I also don't think you need different potatoes for different types of chicken. Rosemary potatoes work for many different dishes, IMHO.

Ah, I must have misunderstood her on Friday Angela :) My bad.  I thought they told her about it recently but had already known about it back then as well.

You never know, unless they told her outright, "Yea we've had that convention booked for over a year!" Which I hope they didn't, that would be really stupid.
