Getting in Shape

worst show ever.

just need to vent to people that will understand :)while putting centerpieces together yesterday, FI was watching 'Man v. Food' streaming from Netflix.  seriously, worst show ever.it's about this guy that travels around the US looking for the best "pig out spots" he can find - the steakhouse in TX with the 72 oz steak; the restaurant in Austin with the huge tacos and a record of 7 eaten in one sitting; the massive stuffed sandwich in chicago (eat 3 to beat the record)... and then tries to beat the record.1. it physically made me feel sick, watching him eat all that food in one sitting, most of it very fattening and loaded with more calories than i should eat in a few days.2. it made me sad to watch them throw out the food he couldn't finish, or even just watch him eat SO much more than his body needs.  i wonder how many hungry people were looking in the window or watching the show, just wishing they could have one portion size out of the 10 he had in front of him...  more reasons why so much of the world hates the USA...

That premise reminds me a bit of diners drive ins and dives with guy something or other. I can totally see him dying of some kind of massive coronary or diabetes in the news in a few years, with some of the crap he plows into his mouth on that show.
  • I do have to say I look at everything so different now. Things I used to really enjoy sort of.....disgust me now - I can't get over the choices peolpe make.I want to yell put down the doughnut and join me so we can live forever!!!btw YAY for putting together centerpieces....getting close :)
  • He's a competitive eater, right? I think that's the premise behind the show.  Can this nationally recognized competitive eater really compete.I understand the whole starving-kids-in-Africa thing, but even this show wasn't in production - those kids would still be starving.I don't think this show is a big deal.  Plus there are TONS of cooking shows on TV that waste food.  Seriously, who eats the food they prepare in food comps like Top Chef, Hell's Kitchen, etc.  It's all a waste and all for TV - Just.Like.This.Show.
  • If you really want to be disgusted - think about this:  They are paying Simon Cowel and Ryan Seacrest MILLIONS of dollars a year to "host" a TV SHOW.  Seriously, $15 million a year?  How much does that actually break down to a word?  This is what upsets me and proves that there's waaaaayyyy to much money in Hollywood.  Talk about feeding some kids.
  • Yeah I have seen that show, it makes me want to puke half the time with how much he eats...
  • it definately irritates me that people get paid millions to be annoying on tv....ryan seacrest eck. that's why we LOVE america though right?! haha, the land of possibilities
  • My FI was watching a show the other night about a restaurant that serves record breaking sandwiches. They are known for their enormous BLT's. I have never seen so much bacon go on a sandwich. I think they said they put pounds of bacon on each sandwich. They were huge and people were eating them. It was disgusting and my FI wanted to find out where they are located.
  • I actually like Man V. Food. Yes, it's super gross to see someone eat that much food, but I highly doubt he eats like that all the time.  I just love shows about travel and food, and I think the host is really charming and likeable. Competitive eating is certainly not something that's specific to the USA. Some of the world's 'best' competitive eaters come from Japan.  Personally, I do think it's pretty gross, but I'm certainly not offended by it.I went to pastry school and we were almost never allowed to bring the stuff we made home. It all went to the cafeteria, where I would say 80% of it wasn't eaten, and was thrown away. To me, that's a much bigger shame than some guy eating a 12 egg omelet on tv- which, by the way, gets a lot of attention for these small businesses he goes to, and as a business owner, I can really appreciate that!
  • Yeah, I don't see the harm in it.  If anything, it keeps me out of the kitchen!
