Nutrisystem?

Hey ladies - I'm 9 months from my wedding and have made no progress towards being the svelte bride I have pictured in my head!  Has anyone tried Nutrisystem and liked it?  If you do autoship it's $300/mo, which sounds like a lot but if that's all I eat and am strict about not eating out, I think it would about equal what I spend on food/dining out.  I'd appreciate any insight!  Thanks.

Re: Nutrisystem?

  • I haven't tried it, but I am always wary about diets that are super restricting--it just doesn't seem to fit with my real life.  Are you going to be able to stick to it if you are invited to a birthday party, or through the holidays?  That would be my concern that I would spend all that money and then not be able to stick to a rigid plan and live my life at the same time.  Just a thought.

I just have to question what a pre packaged meal is going to teach you - I think to successfully lose weight and maintain a healthy weight for your life, you need to learn what is in your food, how to cook healthy food for yourself and how much of different components (calories/carbs/fat/protein) you need in your diet to stay healthy. I dont think nutrisystem will do this. 9 months is MORE than enough time to eat properly, work out and lose weight and tone your body.
  • There's a post about this a few weeks ago. My mom and I tried it about two years ago, and it worked. And Nebb, it does teach you about portion sizes and good choices...however, you will be REALLY hungry. Constantly. That's all I can remember about it honestly. Save your money. More than half of the breakfasts they send is oatmeal, you can do that for a lot less yourself. Lunches are either protein bars or shakes... again, you can do that yourself. Dinner you can eat whatever vegetables you want, and they provide whole wheat pasta with tomato based sauce, veggie burger patties, lean cuisine-esque lasagna, etc.... which is why I quit Nutrisystem. I learned what I had to do, and then saved my money. But, it may be just what you need...

  • I completely agree with the prior people, but I am someone who lost 50 pounds on Jenny Craig and it was the first time I actually got to my goal and a healthy weight.  I've since kept the weight off by eating healthy, enjoying treats in moderation, and exercising a lot (I'm kind of an obsessive exerciser since it keeps me sane).  I have a friend who lost 40 pounds on Nutrisystem, and she said it's incredibly easy to follow and she enjoyed the food.  She was having a hard time getting started as well.  She's now eating healthfully and exercising, no longer doing Nutrisystem, and she's still losing weight.  So, while I agree, it's usually cheaper and definitely better for the long term to make some real, lasting changes to how you eat and increasing exercise; I do also know it's very hard to get started sometimes.  Good luck!
