Getting in Shape

Piloxing DVD Review

I said I would review this DVD on here when I tried it, and I finally tried it today and it is HARD!! But I do recommend it :) First off, you can only get it at the website (www.vpilates.com), and it is $20 :( plus something stupid like $10 for shipping. However, I do not belong to a gym, so I figure if I was paying monthly to take classes somewhere it'd cost more :) The instructor is named Viveca Jensen and she is from Sweden. For my first time, I found it a little tough to follow the "choreography," but the moves were not difficult and I'll probably just need to memorize the routine. But man did I get a workout! You are supposed to wear weighted gloves - I used 2 pound wrist weights, but I will need to switch down to 1 pounders because with all the repetitions, I was really sore. The instructor recommends 1/2 to 1 pounders (oops). Don't buy her gloves on the site because they are $30 a pair (ripoff). I am using these o-ring wrist weights (which I prefer to the thumblock kind) that I got at TJ Maxx. The workout is basically a combination of cardio boxing and (in my opinion) ballet moves (dancers would probably find this easier), and core/stability. There is also mat work at the end. The girls in the video are really into it which is kinda nice to see. And they all match in black and hot pink outfits haha. A handful of the moves were silly and I found myself giggling at one point. Also, it's really girly so this is not something you could do with FI. Many of the moves are very feminine and flowy. Here's a review from the fitness blog I follow (www.fitbottomedgirls.com) http://fitbottomedgirls.blogspot.com/2009/07/under-review-piloxing-and-chance-to-try.html And here is a sample clip on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pSDFU5oREM All in all, I would recommend it. It is tough but I imagine if you did this every day you would get amazing results!

Re: Piloxing DVD Review

  • MINUS the 's in the links....I don't get why TK does that!!!
  • Did you need any other equipment besides the wrist weights?
  • OMG I want it!!! i love boxing workouts and I really need a new one.Does her accent get annoying after a while? I feel like it would feel like taking a class from the Swedish Chef.
  • You just need a mat and the weights. As for her accent, it's bearable.  She is really peppy and I can see how some people might find this, combined with the accent a tad annoying (along with some of the silly moves I mentioned, one of which was like thrusting your hips and whipping the air haha).  I kinda love the fact though that it's totally geared toward women as I really love girly things :)
