Drapery! Help!

Could someone please explain how drapery works and Wat the going rate per foot is? The dos and donts of it as well as lighting? Wat does it normally cost, and how should I shop them both? Also, who do I call to get a brand created, and Wat should be my budget for that? Thank you in advance

Re: Drapery! Help!

  • Sorry, I don't know anything about drapery, but since when did the word "what" lose the 'h' and become capitalized? Just curious.

Maybe try searching on the interwebz.

I CAN tell you that a lot of DJs provide uplighting services. So if you have one, get a quote from them. If not, check the vendor sticky.

Draping and lighting are expensive. DJs provide lighting but someone that has had it will be more help. Honestly if you want draping and lighting for WP you might want to think about choosing a more all inclusive venue as your savings can quickly get eaten up in decorating the space.
  • Uplighting can also get expensive--the lowest I've seen is $25 per can, and that was if you purchased the them yourself online. You will probably want to get with your DJ to see if that is a service they offer and negotiate the price down.
I'll ditto PP's and reinforce that drapery is very expensive--any party rental company should be able to quote you based on the square footage of your venue. (Ducky Bobs, A-1 Wedding Rental, TLC Party Rental, etc.)
  • Here's an old thread with some referrals for Pipe & Drape:

I'm not so good with the advice... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?

  • Thank you for suggestions, and please excuse the typo. For some reason I thought I was asking questions about a wedding. Not turning in a paper to my English professor. Just sayin. Have a great day!
  • Great! Could you refer me to an all inclusive resort?
  • Awesome! I will check into the party rental company's you have suggested. I haven't found my dj yet, so I will make sure to mention it to them. I have spoken with one drapery company and they charge 10.00 per foot, and it was 25.00 a light. I wasent sure if that was normal or a good deal. Thanks again.

I was just saying that if you feel you need to transform the space with drapery, lighting, etc., you might want to think about looking for a venue that already has the look you are going for and that will provide more for you (chairs, linens, set up/take down, etc.).  Most people choose WP for the cost savings, but that savings can get eaten up quickly if you have to rent a bunch of decor along with all the other things that you have to provide.

But that's just something to think about.  If you don't mind doing lots of DIY, it can still be a great cost effective venue, just be aware that bringing in lots of extra decor can add up.  You might just want to weigh the pros and cons is all I'm saying.
