Core workouts? Inner thighs?

I would really like to work my core, any suggestions?  I also am having difficulty finding a way to work my inner thighs, that's my biggest problem area!  I run 3-4 times a week, cross train on the elliptical and lift, but still can't manage to get rid of my fat legs!   HELP! :)

Re: Core workouts? Inner thighs?

  • Fat loss is governed by calorie deficit.  Meaning, to loss fat you have to burn more calories than you're eating.  Either you need to eat fewer calories (using a site like MyPlate or SparkPeople to help figure that out) or move/exercise more.

Developing muscle helps to burn fat, but just because you work your inner thigh doesn't mean that that's where the fat will come off.  That part is mostly determined by your genetics.

If you're still interested in exercises that develop the muscles in your inner legs, something like a Dumbbell Lateral Lunge (link) is appropriate.  You can do that one with the weights up at your shoulders or down at your sides.

As for abs, well, the main function of your abs is not to bend and "crunch" but to twist.  Millions of crunches won't really get you anywhere (especially if you still have a layer of fat on top of them).  Some great twist type core exercises are the Woodchop (link) or a Russian Twist (link).

  • thanks Raynes!  good advice!
  • tae bo is an awesome core workout! if you can get your hands on some billy blanks tapes he is great. it really firms up your abs and your buns! just keep working out and be patient, sometimes its hard to see results but they will show if you are persistant and eat right!
