Workout Accountability: Wednesday (Happy Hump Day)

Hey all!

Last night was an "easy" night for me.  I lifted and did some abs from home.  Tonight I am hoping to get to the gym for a run before FI gets back from his conference.

How did you all do?

Re: Workout Accountability: Wednesday (Happy Hump Day)

  • I'm about to go do Insanity.  H is doing it now too, which is awesome becaues I didn't think it would be his thing at all.  Now I can commiserate with someone!

I did skip a day yesterday, because I was just exhausted and my body did NOT want to get up early enough.  I listened, slept a bit more, didn't do Insanity, and I feel so much better today.  No regrets--my body needed rest!

  • I skipped spin class this morning, but I'm determined not to feel bad about it since this is my "recovery" week so I'm down mileage from last week.  I am supposed to do 6 miles tomorrow and 12 on Satruday, but if I'm still feeling worn out I'll cut Saturday to 8.  J&K is right- gotta listen to my body!
  • Last night's workout has my legs feeling like jelly today.  I didn't run for speed or distance, just for time.  I managed to "run" (as some points I was barely running) for an hour and 26 minutes.

After a ridiculously disappointing complimentary lesson at Arthur Murray (not so much lesson as used car salesman trying to talk us into spending $1000 for 8 lessons); we hit the gym.

We've been upping our distance 1/4 mile every day, so I was looking at going 2.5 miles which is daunting for me b/c my average eliptical distance is 2 miles before I'm dead.  But, I've been concentrating on my breathing, and I went 2.5 in 30 minutes without feeling overly winded. FI did 3.75 miles, and we're ready to up it again tonight.

I would love to be able to work it up to 3 miles in 30-35 minutes without being exhausted so I can start adding in some weights -- my arms need help!!

Ohhh - and I introduced my fiance to Saladworks last night -- we scoured the nutritional info so we didn't get any of the salads that are worse than Pasta, and he loved it!  The prices there are crazy, so we're only going to go as often as we have 1/2 price coupons!

  • I'm new to this thread, but love accountability!

Last night I maybe should have listened to my body and taken it easy.  I was a little sore from too Monday night's Body Pump class (especially my legs) but decided to try Body Step for the first time anyway.  Even though it was very challenging, I'm so glad I did because I really enjoyed it.  Today I'll take it a little easier and just do 45 minutes on a bike or elliptical.  Thinking elliptical because my arms need some work today.
  • I did a workout class called, "Turbulance Training" at the park district last night. It's 5 circuits that we do for a minute each with 30 second rests in between. The instructor is intense. I feel good today. No soreness- which I felt the past few Wednesdays after the class. Yay progress!

  • Nice job everyone!

J&K - You have me very excited to eventually try Insanity!  I'd love to have my FI do it with me when I do :)

Umm, that's redic! If I paid $125 for a workout session, I'd better look like a freakin' VS supermodel when I'm finished.

  • J&K- Have you done P90X? If so, I'm interested to hear your thoughts comparing the two. I found myself getting bored of P90X after a while- but it might have to do more with me working out alone in my basement and less from the workout itself. So, for the basement reason, I'm not sure if I should order Instanity and try itt.

  • Didn't do anything yesterday, just rested. Today I start week 2 of C25K, and can't wait! I have a big presentation in my education communication class today though - so I'll be waiting until after. It'll feel nice to run off some of this adrenaline!

  • I kinda jumped right in and started posting on this board without really introducing myself or telling you girls about my goals.

My name is Allie and I am looking to lose 40 pounds before I go dress shopping in August. Thats 5 pounds a month, I think it is a very realistic goal. My first month is up in exactly a week and I have lost 3.5 pounds, I am super close to my monthly goal. I have been looking to change my lifestyle and lose weight for a while but couldnt seem to get motivated. Getting engaged was just the kick in the butt that I needed. I am always looking for ways to change up my workouts so I dont get bored, and am always looking for new recipes, so I am looking very forward to posting with you ladies! Onto accountability...

I am going to the gym tonight and plan on doing 30-40 minutes on the elliptical (my arms need it too!) then doing week 1 day 3 of c25k...I plan on doing some leg and arm machines since I did abs yesterday.

Today FI and I are going to lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings for a fundraiser and I am a little nervous. Although I cant find "official" nutrtitional information from them, the stuff I have been able to find basically indicates the only good choice there is the naked tenders.

Yesterday I also bought some new hand weights so I can dust off my copy of the 30 day shred and start it again sometime this week. I somehow lost my handweights in my move from college to FIs house.

  • Got 35 minutes on the elliptical and 20 minutes of weight lifting yesterday. I was surprisingly exhausted for the workout, so tonight I'll probably do some light cardio but not push TOO hard.

  • Okay, so WHAT IS INSANITY?  haha I am a student, so my definition of insanity is obv different than this.  I'm assuming it's a program, but what is it!?!?  haha.

I did ellyptical before my Body Works class and then my Fab Ab February.  Did a 30 sec plank for the first time (the instructor wanted a minute, but I will get there! Haha)  Today is a rest day for me.  Shin splints are acting up and you have to be careful with them.

    Keep it up girls!
  • Yup, it's a workout program.

It is similar to P90X in that there is a lot of plymoterics mixed in with strength moves, etc.
  • I did week 5 day 3 of C25K yesterday morning and was feeling so good about that did week 6 day 1 yesterday night. My legs are still wobbly so I skipped this morning.
will squeeze in 30DS tonight though

  • Did fab ab february by it's self yesterday as I had NO energy -- today I've already done zumba -- and will do the 8th day of fab ab later tonight

  • Hey guys :) I did w2d2 of c25k today and I'm really starting to feel it . It really pushed me and it was also my first real run outside in cold weather 25 degrees. It was definitely worth it and my new heart rate monitor says I burned 280 calories. :)
  • After work today I did an intermediate Zumba class and then my first day of Week Two on Ripped in 30. The workout was NO JOKE. Sweat was pouring off of me before the first circuit was over. The positive was that it only incorporated two high impact cardio exercises; most of the cardio was done in plank position. My shins/calves have been killing me, so it was a nice break. With that said, one negative was there was so much darn plank! Dingy dang I think my arms are going to fall off.

Have a great night, ladies & great job today!

  • I did a mini curcuit for abs/legs for 20 min, then I power walked for 25 minutes on the indoor track.  I lapped some joggers!

    Whoops.  Missed this sorry!

I haven't done P90X.  I wonder if you'd do better with Insanity because it's shorter?  It's only 60 days, and the the workouts are shorter too.  Also the first and second month are different workouts.

Also, I play it without the music, and play my own music.  That helps a lot!

  • Started the day with an early morning 2 mile run then trained for 30 minutes and learned an awesome circuit! I finished up with 30 minutes of cardio for recovery and did the Fab Ab set for today (I threw in a couple of side planks for good measure). Felt so good today! Also realized... I have a month until my fitting. Ack!

Here's the circuit if anyone's interested. Don't let the short time span of this circuit fool you, it kicked my butt!

    Trainer called it "Rocket Boosters"
    1 round/set = 5 squat thrusts, 5 burpees, 5 air squats

Complete the set within 1 minute; once done use the remaining time as "rest" time (ie: if you finish in 35 seconds, then you give yourself 25 seconds rest before jumping back into the next set/minute); you must complete the entire series to count it for your "round/set" within that minute; the goal is to aim to complete each round consecutively for at least 15 minutes (15 rounds). By the end, you will have completed 75 reps of each exercise. The challenge is to work your way up to 20 rounds or more. You can "skip a round" by taking a minute for extra recovery if you need it; my trainer said to allow no more than 5 "skips" within the 15-20 minutes. It's definitely going into my workout rotation!
