Getting in Shape

Looking for a weight loss partner!

So Im a plus sized soon to be bride, getting married on August 25th of this year. Im really hoping that I can find someone thats aiming for the same goal. Someone that I can talk to, give and get advice,  and hopefully motivate one another. I go to the gym with my best friend but shes soooo thin and I feel like I cant talk to her about my struggles. I think its something that a plus sized person can truly understand.

Im not trying to say that Id prefer someone my size as opposed to someone thats thin but I guess it would make me feel a bit more comfortable. Anyways, if your trying to lose weight and would like a partner let me know.

Thanks so much and I really hope to hear from someone lol

  • How about me? :) My wedding's supposed to be in August too.
  • Welcome to the board!

i personally find most of the posters here to be motivating, really knowledgable about various methods for weight loss, and just general sweetheart.  Feel free to ask us any questions you have or even page me specifically.

Don't forget, weight loss is about 80% what you eat and only 20% exercise.

    Good Luck!
  • Thanks Anna, I actually didnt know that. I thougt the excercise was most important. My hardest part is going to be the snacking. I really do love fresh fruits and veggies but the unhealthy crap is always cheaper so I tend to lean towards that. Plus my Fi LOVES junk food so that kinda makes the temptation that much stronger lol

Don't compromise healthy foods just to save a buck. If you're on a strict budget, try cutting in other areas too. Diet is a HUGE factor into loosing weight and health.

  • Snacking is a good thing! I snack aaaall day long, but I snack on the right stuff.. so I still struggle to meet my caloric intake requirements for the day. A tip for snacking: We tend to grab the chips because they are easy and ready-to-eat. Start making things that are ready-to-eat. Sundays are my days to cut up aaaaall the veggies and bag them individually so I CANNOT use that as an excuse to grab the bad stuff. I ALWAYS keep a glass of water near me. Always.
The unhealthful crap is not always cheaper, I promise. You just have to look in the right places. In-season fruits and veggies can be super cheap! Grab a ton of apples and make sugar-free applesauce, nuts can be pricy, but filling.. You eat 7 almonds and are totally good snackwise.

Stuff like junk food is hard to stop cold turkey, but if you are wanting life-long health it's something to consider. It's hard. Really hard. But once it's done, you stop missing it. I used to drink three diet pepsis a DAY in middle and high school because we always had it in the house.
I haven't touched a soda, regular or diet, in YEARS and have no interest in them.. I haven't had fast food in oh gosh.. Idk.. a year? two? Once you get past the initial hump, your body stops craving that crap. :)

It is tough to get use to at first, but you CAN have treats while eating a healthy diet.  If you eat well, there is no reason you can't have things you like too.  I've had Ice cream with caramel sauce, 2 slices of pizza, and one of those 99 cent bags of sour cream and onion chips this week.  BUT, I did not go over my calorie amount on any of those days, still got enough good protein and veggie carbs, and still lost weight.  I'm on a life diet.  Changing my eating habits in a managable way. Most people don't want to survive on rabbit food alone.  When we make ourselves do that for the sake of losing weight, we often end up breaking and failing.

Hop on a site like Sparkpeople.com (it's free and there is an app) and do a profile to determine where you should be eating.  it's been a huge help for me in the last 10-ish months (see my ticker).

Exercise is great though!  Don't forget about it all together.  It can really amp up weight loss paired with a good diet.

Also, there are LOTS of "healthy" snacks.  My H doesn't do most veggies and fruit due to allergies so always use to snack on junk.  Now I make homemade beef jerky (great protein!), keep the fridge stocked with single servings of sugar-free jello, and always try to have nice meats and cheeses on hand to snack on (cubed)

<div>I sent you a private message, I have no idea how to check it lol i hope you have better luck with it than I did.</div><div>
</div><div>Ladies, thanks so much for all the advice. I LOVE IT lol I love the idea of cutting up all the veggies on a set day. That is definitely one reason my veggies go bad lol awful I know, but I will take and use that advice.</div><div>
</div><div>As far as excercise goes, its something Id like to do once a day. I love how I feel when I work out. I feel energized and it just gets me in a positive mood.</div>

  • I was just about to post a message about looking for a weight loss partner! My wedding date is June 29, 2012 and with exactly 95 days to go, I need to shed a few pounds. Anyone looking for a gym/accountability buddy? :)
  • Check out the app MyFitnessPal for your phone if you have a smartphone.  It's great because you can log your daily calorie intake and workouts to track what you eat and how many calories you burn.  Also, I love that it has a barcode scanner which makes logging what you eat much easier.  The only downside is I get tired of logging each item, but if you eat the same kinds of food, it saves them to log easier.  Good luck on your weightloss!  I am getting married June 15th, 2013 and hope to lose about 30-40 lbs and tone up.
