Buffalo Wing Replacement

I crave buffalo chicken wings. Rather than having buffalo chicken, my cravings are held off by having a really small salad with 2 tablespoons of blue cheese dressing and a bunch of Red Hot. SO GOOD and much better than eating grease!!

Re: Buffalo Wing Replacement

  • I too, crave Buffalo wings. what has worked for me is finding lean buffalo deli chicken at Wal-mart. I get it real thin sliced and then shred up two pieces of it on top of a spinach salad. I use about a teaspoon of crumbled reduced fat blue cheese and then a homemade dressing that has kind of a tangy feel to it. I'll post that recipe when i get home.

  • MorningStar "buffalo wings" are a great alternative too!
  • steffiel - I was going to say the same thing. I LOVE those. They are awsome!

I can't remember the name of the dressing, but in the refridgerated salad dressing area is a "blue cheese yogurt" and its amazing also! Very blue cheesy and pretty low in calories and fat because its made with yogurt. So when you are really craving the blue cheese dipping effect its the way to go.

Crap... now I have to go get some for dinner... =)

  • LOVE MORNINGSTAR FARMS BUFFALO WINGS :) mmmm... I'm going to have to look for that blue cheese yogurt dressing! Let me know the brand if and when you remember.
  • Yes ld -- please post the recipe :)
  • callalily - I think it was Casadania Farms. Or something of that nature. You should be able to find it right next to the horribly fatty - haha - Marie's brand in the refridgerated section.

They have an amazing honey mustard dressing too that i use to marinate chicken all the time, its yummy!

  • OOh good to know! I'm going to keep an eye out :) Thanks!!
  • Great post! I also love buffalo wings and just assumed it was out of the question for weight watchers.  I can't wait to try the blue cheese yogurt...
  • When I can't hold my craving any more for wings.  I make my own.  I usually boil the chicken wings or steam them for about 20 minutes then put them in a ziploc with hot sauce and bake for about 20-30 minutes.  I don't use blue cheese anymore because the lf stuff doesn't cut it for me so I use lf ranch now.
  • I LOVE wing sauce :) And love even more that it has almost no calories on its own.. I buy bottles of it at the grocery store, toss cooked chicken breast in it, and then put them on top of a salad.. No blue cheese for me because I can't stand it, and I try to avoid ranch.. love the hot sauce though!

It's Bolthouse Farms for the yogurt dressings and they are amazing! I love ranch dressing but at 140 calories per serving on average, it's a rare treat. The Bolthouse Farms yogurt ranch has about 80 calories per serving and tastes exactly the same! They also make a Balsamic Vinegarette that has 30 calories per serving and is very rich....

  • Yes, I think the wing craving is definitely the hot sauce-blue cheese craving. Sometimes I get some ligher blue cheese as well. I'm from Buffalo, it's in my genes!

You can try making boneless wings from hungry girl.  I like this recipe:

    Ingredients:
8 oz. raw boneless skinless lean chicken breast, cut into 10 nugget-shaped pieces
1/4 cup Fiber One bran cereal (original), ground to a breadcrumb-like consistency in a blender or food processor
1 oz. (about 14 crisps) Pringles Light Fat Free Potato Crisps, Barbecue (or another fat-free BBQ-flavored potato chip)
3 tbsp. Frank's RedHot Original Cayenne Pepper Sauce
    dash onion powder
    dash garlic powder
    dash cayenne pepper
    dash black pepper
    dash salt

    Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Crush potato crisps completely and, in a small dish, mix with cereal crumbs. Add a dash of each of the seasonings and mix well. Place chicken pieces in a separate dish, and cover and toss with Frank's RedHot. Spray a baking pan with nonstick spray. Give each chicken piece a shake (so it's not dripping with RedHot), and then coat it evenly with the crumb mixture. Lay the battered nuggets on the baking pan. Place in the oven, and bake for 10 minutes. Then flip the wings over, and return them to the oven for 10 more minutes, or until outsides are crispy and chicken is cooked throughout. MAKES 2 SERVINGS
