Getting in Shape

Hi :) New to this board!

Hi!  I am looking to get in shape!  I bought my dress in March and it was a little tight when I bought it.  I wanted to lose 5-10 pounds to fit in it perfectly and be a little leaner than when I tried it on.  Since then, I have started a new stressful job and have gained 10 pounds!  So now I have to lose 15-20!  I am hoping to get inspiration from you girls!  I am getting married in April 2013 with a Hawaiian Honeymoon right after, so I NEED to be bikini ready!  I don't workout because I don;t have energy, but I am hoping I have the motivation to change that!  I just joined sparkpeople and they have set a daily calorie goal of 1200- 1550 a day and to burn 460 calories a week with exercise.  I hope I can do it!  It doesn't seem like that will be too hard to stick to, but I am always hungry :/

I look forward to talking with you ladies!

Re: Hi :) New to this board!

  • You put the 10 on, you can take it off. :P
If you don't have energy to work out, it's time to look at things like your sleep and your diet. A diet heavy in refined grains (white bread/pasta for example) and/or refined sugars (all those oreos and ice cream haha) can really kill your energy levels.
You also might be deficient and some vitamines like C, D, folate, iron.. Adding whole grains into your diet, as well as vegetables (especially spinach!) can lift all those deficiencies that may be causing your fatigue.

If you don't have motivation to fix the work out routine, fix the diet first! The other will eventually follow if you stick around here :)

Welcome to the board and GL!
  • firsttimersluck luck gave you some great advice.  It's something that I need to work on as well.  Hope you stick around and find some great motivation on this board! :)

  • I largely agree with firsttimers.  I'd also look at upping some protein, healthy fats, and fiber if you're always hungry.

You should also google "BMR calculator" and make sure you're eating enough for your stats.  1200-1500 is what Sparkpeople starts everyone at, and it's not always the best range.  ESPECIALLY if you're working out.  If you're always hungry, you may very well not be eating enough.  If you find that you are eating enough, then like firsttimer said, evaluate WHAT you're eating.

Working out doesn't have to be a terrible, draining chore.  Start with getting your diet on track.  Then add something simple, something easier, something you enjoy.  Walking, hiking, tennis, basketball, swimming, going for a bike ride around the neighborhood.  Many of those things can be done with other people as well, which makes everything easier.  Working out doesn't need to be done in a stuffy, fluorescent lighted, stinky gym or in front of a TV with a DVD barking orders at you.  Find something you ENJOY doing that gets your HR up.  That's the best way to start.

Hi! I am an April 2013 bride as well and want to lose 40-50 lbs. I too ordered my dress smaller so I can lose weight and be healthier in general. Best of luck!

  • Thanks everyone!  My vitamin D level is low.  I just found out in March.  I've been taking Vitamin D3 supplements to try to get it up.  I DID workout today!  35 minutes on the treadmill- walking at a 5% incline.  I also ate pretty clean and healthy. I am looking forward to doing this with you girls! :)  Good luck everyone!
